Function/Summary
The Assistant Dean serves in a key operational leadership role supporting the Workforce & Economic Development (WED) Division. This position is responsible for the supervision of WED staff, day-to-day coordination, implementation, and continuous improvement of workforce programs, employer partnerships, and non-credit training initiatives.
The role focuses on executing workforce strategies established by the Dean, ensuring that programs are aligned with industry needs, delivered effectively, and connected to credit-bearing pathways where appropriate. The Assistant Dean plays a central role in advancing workforce programming at the Innovation and Technology Center (ITC), including coordination of customized training, short-term credentials, and employer-based initiatives.
This position operates with delegated authority for day-to-day operational decisions but does not hold final authority over personnel, budget, or institutional commitments. The Assistant Dean supports and implements divisional priorities and does not serve as a substitute for the Dean in matters of final authority unless formally designated.
Minimum Qualifications
Education:
- Required: Associate’s degree required
- Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in business, workforce development, technical discipline, education, or a related field preferred
Experience:
- Required:
- Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in workforce development, industry training, higher education, or a related field
- Demonstrated experience managing workforce programs, employer partnerships, or customized training initiatives
- Strong understanding of workforce pathways, credentialing models, and professional-credit and credit program alignment
- Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Preferred:
- Experience working in both academic and professional-credit workforce environments
- Knowledge of community and technical college systems and workforce funding models
- Experience with grants, customized training contracts, or apprenticeship programs
- Supervisory or leadership experience in a workforce, education, or industry setting
- Familiarity with program evaluation, assessment, and continuous improvement processes

Duties/Responsibilities
Workforce Program Operations
- Coordinate scheduling, delivery, and execution of non-credit workforce training programs
- Ensure programs are aligned with industry needs and delivered in a timely and effective manner
- Support development and refinement of short-term training, micro-credentials, and customized programs
- Monitor program performance and recommend improvements based on data and outcomes
Employer & Industry Engagement
- Serve as a primary point of contact for business and industry partners for workforce training needs
- Coordinate development and delivery of customized training, incumbent worker programs, and apprenticeships
- Support and participate in Business & Industry Leadership Teams (BILTs) and sector partnerships
- Maintain ongoing communication with employers to assess workforce needs and program effectiveness
Pathway & Program Alignment
- Facilitate alignment between non-credit workforce training and academic credit programs
- Support development of stackable credentials and career pathways
- Collaborate with academic leadership and student services to support transitions from workforce training into degree programs
Data, Reporting, and Continuous Improvement
- Track and analyze workforce metrics including enrollment, completions, credentials, and employment outcomes
- Prepare reports for internal leadership, external partners, and grant requirements
- Use data to identify gaps, improve programming, and support decision-making
Operational & Administrative Support
- Assist the Dean with budgeting, grants, contracts, and workforce-related financial tracking
- Support development and implementation of grants and externally funded workforce initiatives
- Coordinate logistics for workforce programming, including facilities, instructors, and materials
- Participate in institutional committees and cross-functional initiatives as assigned
Staff & Instructional Support
- Supervise Workforce & Economic Development Staff
- Support onboarding and coordination of adjunct instructors, trainers, and workforce staff
- Assist with scheduling and workload coordination
- Promote consistency, professionalism, and quality in program delivery
Collaboration with Internal Teams
- Work in coordination with marketing, admissions, advising, and other college units to support workforce initiatives
- Provide program information, outcomes data, and workforce insights to support institutional efforts
- Collaborate across divisions while maintaining clear operational responsibility within Workforce & Economic Development
