Position Description
This position involves developing and leading new educational programs for children at West Overton Village and Museum (WOVM) as part of a grant-funded project from EQT Foundation. These hands-on programs will engage children with the history of West Overton, including the history of agriculture, industry, the arts, and environment from the early 19th to early 20th centuries.
The Education Program Coordinator will work with WOVM senior staff to develop and promote programs, and will lead programs independently in the Museum. These programs will be offered to families for free on select Sunday afternoons; 12 programs in total will be offered from May to October. The Education Program Coordinator will also assist with Summer Camp for ages 8-12 from July 27-31.
Primary Responsibilities
- Develop 12 hands-on educational programs for children and families with accompanying lesson plans
- Educate children and families about a variety of historical subjects
- Create a positive, welcoming, and inclusive environment
- Gather and organize program materials
- Oversee activities on the day of the program, including set up, leading program, and clean up
- Assist with program promotion and evaluation
- Assist with and lead programs for Summer Camp
- Attend and provide project updates at education staff meetings
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- College degree, or degree in progress, in education, history, or related field
- Sincere interest in working with children and families of diverse backgrounds; experience working with children preferred
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work under pressure, independently, and as part of a team
- Excitement for learning about and sharing local history
- Ability to move and lift 20 pounds, walk/stand for extended periods
- Obtain clearances as prerequisite to hiring (paid for by WOVM)
Details
- Part-time, temporary role
- Up to 25 hours a week, May 8 - October 31
- $14 / hour
- Must be willing to work weekends
- Eligible for discounts in Museum gift shop and on select program admission
