Certified School Nurse – High School Level
Position Summary
The Certified School Nurse provides comprehensive health services to high school students and staff to support student wellness, academic achievement, and a safe learning environment. The school nurse promotes health education, manages student health needs, responds to medical emergencies, and collaborates with families, staff, and community agencies.
Qualifications
- Valid Pennsylvania Certified School Nurse Certificate
- Registered Nurse (RN) license in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required
- Current CPR/AED and First Aid Certification
- School nursing experience preferred
- Ability to work collaboratively with students, staff, parents, and outside agencies
- Strong organizational, communication, and technology skills
- Knowledge of adolescent health and wellness needs
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide direct nursing services to students and staff
- Administer medications and treatments in accordance with physician orders and district policy
- Maintain accurate student health records and documentation
- Monitor and manage chronic health conditions including asthma, diabetes, seizures, and allergies
- Respond to medical emergencies and coordinate appropriate follow-up care
- Conduct health screenings and assist with mandated state reporting requirements
- Collaborate with families, physicians, counselors, and administrators regarding student health concerns
- Promote health education and wellness initiatives throughout the school community
- Ensure compliance with state immunization requirements and health regulations
- Maintain confidentiality in accordance with FERPA and HIPAA guidelines
- Perform additional duties as assigned by administration
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and move medical supplies and equipment
- Ability to respond quickly to emergency situations throughout the school building
- Ability to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods of time
Salary and Benefits
Salary and benefits will be provided in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement and district policies.
