What are the responsibilities and job description for the 1.0 Paraprofessional - Transition House 2026/2027 position at West Chester Area School District?
The West Chester Area School District has the following position available:
- Paraprofessional/Instructional Assistant (Position is 7 hours a day; 5 days/week)
The Paraprofessionals at the Independent Living Transition House focus on supporting young adults as they build the skills needed for greater independence after high school. Their role extends beyond traditional classroom support and includes community-based instruction, employment readiness, and daily living skill development.
In addition, paraprofessionals may be assigned to the PAES Lab, where they oversee the day-to-day operations of the vocational lab and help create a professional work environment. In this setting, students act as “employees” while exploring career areas such as construction, business, and technology. Responsibilities include supporting the development of workplace skills, monitoring student work behaviors and independence, and documenting progress to assist with long-term transition planning.
Knowledge of vocational skills, post-secondary transition planning, and experience working with high school-aged students is preferred, but not required.
Minimum Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Basic computer skills required
- Excellent communication and documentation skills required
- The employee in this position could be required as part of his or her duties to engage in activities that can be charged to a Medical Assistance or other state or federal healthcare program. Clearance as a provider under such programs by both the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the federal government is therefore an essential qualification for this position.
