The department of Public Works is searching for a Mower I or II.

Public Works Mower I $22.93 - $29.35
Public Works Mower II $25.52 - $32.66

The Mower position provides a unique and rewarding seasonal employment opportunity. All those hired will receive on- the-job training.

Job Description

Field Work - 80%

  • Mow weeds on county roadsides and county owned property.
  • Operate a tractor with a 10’ or 15’(foot) mower deck.
  • Operate a weed eater.
  • Maintain equipment daily including making or coordinating repairs as needed.


Administration - 10%

  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.
  • Complete daily reports.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other County employees and the public.
  • Follow policies and procedures, the Weld County Code of Conduct, and adhere to strict confidentiality guidelines and appropriate release of information outlined in both.
  • Assume complete responsibility of valuable equipment including county owned assets as assigned, such as truck, tractor, mower deck, and any other equipment, ensuring that they are locked and secure.


Other Duties as Assigned - 10%

  • Assist Supervisor, foreman, and co-workers with assignments and tasks requiring independent and individual contribution.

Required Qualifications

Experience Qualifications

  • 1 year Experience in agriculture, particularly with the use of tractor and mower, and a working knowledge of construction activities.


Preferred Education

  • High School Diploma/GED


Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of agriculture and crops grown in Weld County.
  • Candidate must pass criminal background check prior to employment start date.

Public Works Mower II

  • 1 year of experience in agriculture, particularly with the use of tractor and mower, and a working knowledge of construction activities. and
  • Successful completion of one season or 9 months the previous year as a Mower I at Weld County Public Works.


Licenses and Certifications

  • DL NUMBER - Driver License, Valid and in State Must possess a valid, regular Colorado driver's license by the employment start date and maintain a valid license for the duration of employment. Required
  • Candidate must pass a substance use screening prior to employment start date. Required
  • This position will participate in random substance use screening. Required
  • Pre-employment substance screening is required for this position.
  • This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening. Employment is contingent upon successfully passing the screening in accordance with Weld County policy.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 45 pounds. The employee must occasionally stand, walk, climb, squat, stoop, carry, and reach overhead. Employee will regularly perform the following: sit, reach angularly, wrist flexion/extension, elbow flexion/extension, supination/pronation, and grasp. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to hazards, temperature change, fumes or airborne particles and vibration. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to extreme heat and cold temperatures. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.


This position is non-exempt from the minimum wage and overtime requirements of the Fair Labor Standards Act and is therefore eligible for overtime pay.
