Job Description Summary
The Code Compliance Officer exists to preserve property values and to protect the safety, health, and welfare of the Citizens of Weld County. Perform technical and investigative tasks monitoring compliance with the Weld County Code for both the Zoning and Building Codes Divisions.Successful performance in the position is measured by the success in fewer citizen complaints and resolving issues prior to litigation. A successful candidate in this position excels at interpersonal interaction and conflict resolution as well as exploring Weld County to improve conditions of the citizens of Weld County.

Job Description
Administration - 70%
- Maintain records according to established methods and procedures; compile and tabulate data for documentation of the conditions of the property.
- Prepare and present evidence of violation cases for public hearings; testify in court and other governing boards concerning land-use and property violations when required.
- Keep informed of new land-use laws and ordinances; answer inquiries from intra County departments and the public regarding complaints and resolutions while exercising independent judgement.
- Type documents utilizing technical terminology and composition skills, operate a variety of office equipment.
Land Use Investigations - 20%
- Respond to citizen complaints and travel to the location of the complaints, gathering evidence such as photographs and documenting property conditions.
- Pay close attention to detail, has a high level of communication skills, and has the ability to deal with difficult customers preventing escalation.
- Conduct title research on land-use issues, investigating code complaints with applicable regulations; determine property ownership and compliance.
- Learn and apply Weld County Zoning and Building Code Ordinances.
Other Duties as Assigned - 10%
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with County and government officials, other employees, and the general public.
- On occasion attend night meetings and participate in community clean-up events outside of normal business hours.
- Communicate anticipated and current problems to supervisor.
- Follow policies and procedures, the Weld County Code of Conduct, and adhere to strict confidentiality guidelines and appropriate release of information outlined in both.

Required Qualifications
Required Education
- High School Diploma/GED
Experience Qualifications
- 3 years Increasingly responsible experience in office administration or investigations in the field.
- Experience in office and business practices, extensive customer service dealing with the public, and conflict resolution.
Preferred Experience
- Previous experience working with a government agency.
- Experience working with Accela Land Management software.
Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of or ability to obtain knowledge of all software applications, including, but not limited to: Accela Land Management, Weld County Property Portal, Tyler Minutes, Microsoft Office programs, and Adobe Acrobat.
- Candidate must pass criminal background check prior to employment start date.
Licenses and Certifications
- DL NUMBER - Driver License, Valid and in State Candidate must possess a driver’s license by the employment start date and maintain a valid license for the duration of employment. (Required)
- Pre-employment substance screening is required for this position.
- This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening. Employment is contingent upon successfully passing the screening in accordance with Weld County policy.
This position is non-exempt from the minimum wage and overtime requirements of the Fair Labor Standards Act and is therefore eligible for overtime pay.
