JOB DESCRIPTION

Position Summary:

Performs a variety of duties involving laboratory testing of prototypes in the process of research and development, to determine the acceptable standards of performance theoretically established by engineering. Sets up, arranges and operates mechanical or electrical test equipment in the proper test sequences. Tests prototype and records test data for analysis and evaluation by engineers. When directed, tests competitive products or spot tests manufactured products or components for quality control purposes.

Major Responsibilities:

• Mounts and secures test samples and operates test devices through prescribed sequences; a Lab Tech checks the set ups and reviews the test results

• Setup mechanical and/or electrical testing devices and apparatus according to test specifications

• Reads and records test data and calls attention to deviations or variations not indicated or anticipated

• Makes setups, performs test assignments, and completes data sheets in neat, accurate and timely fashion to meet needs of test schedule

• Interface directly with engineering staff for assigned tasks related to test, inspection, tear-down, and reporting technical information

• Disassemble electric motors and generators for test and evaluation as well as reassemble back to salable condition

• Complete maintenance and housekeeping for assigned equipment and work spaces

• Take active role in defining and implementing personal and departmental continuous improvement

Required Education / Experience / Skills:

• Requires completion of a 2 year technical degree program or similar electrical experience.

• Must be able to read and interpret mechanical and electrical engineering drawings

• Must have safe working experience with AC & DC electrical systems. NEC & NFPA code experience desired.

• Experience with tools and instruments related to installation and testing for electric motors, generators, and drives preferred.

• Written communication skills using Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word) applications to clearly exchange technical information and concepts is desirable.

• Experience reviewing, creating, or editing CAD documents using DraftSight or Solidworks software is desirable.

Products and services included in this area are electric generators for hydraulic and thermal power plants (biomass), hydro turbines (small hydroelectric plants or PCH, and hydroelectric generators or CGH)), wind turbines, transformers, substations, control panels and system integration services.

Commercial and Appliance Motors
In this business area, our focus is the market of single phase motors for durable consumer goods, such as washing machines, air conditioners, water pumps, among others.

Paints and Varnishes
In this area, which includes liquid paints, powder paints, and electro-insulating varnishes, we have a very clear focus on industrial applications in Brazil and are expanding to Latin America and other regions.
