Responsibilities
The Disability Services Office is looking for a dependable Captioning Specialist. This position works with a team to make videos or audio recordings accessible for all students. The primary responsibilities of the position are as follows:
- Provide captions (subtitles) in English using specialized captioning software.
- Review course videos and other media to ensure accurate and complete captions are embedded.
- Add or edit captions when needed.
- Ensure that background noises, auditory cues, and speaker identification are included in the edited captions.
- Capture, store and retrieve videos, audio or other information.
- Operate computerized captioning system.
- Follow WCAG 2.1 Captioning Guidelines.
FERPA.
- This is a pooled position. Applicants are selected from the pool as positions become available. After a period of time, the pool will expire and applicants will be notified.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Computer proficient.
- Ability to work independently or with little supervision, reliable, and able to complete work within time constraints.
- Strong typing skills (50-60 WPM)
- English proficient, spelling, and proper use of grammar and punctuation.
- One year college experience or similar related experience.
- Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
- Work study eligible.
