The Department of Mechanical Engineering in the College of Engineering, Applied Science & Technology at Weber State University is accepting applications for an assistant tenure track faculty position starting fall semester, 2026. The department is planning to offer a Master degree in mechanical engineering with emphasis area in Dynamics, Robotics, Controls & AI. The ME department currently offers baccalaureate degrees in mechanical engineering, energy engineering, mechanical engineering technology and an associate in pre-engineering. Selected individual will mostly teach a variety of courses in mechanical engineering with some support teaching in the additional programs mentioned above. We are looking for a scholar/educator with expertise in system modeling, control theory, robot kinematics, and artificial intelligence for robotics and machine control.
Job Duties
The selected candidate will contribute to both undergraduate and graduate education in Mechanical engineering, with a strong emphasis on teaching and developing graduate-level courses in the Dynamics, Controls, Robotics & AI emphasis areas. Service duties include program-building and advising, as well as commitment to extra-curricular activities. Service to the department, college, and university is expected.
Required shared courses to be taught are: ENGR2030 Dynamics, ME3040 Dynamics System Modeling, ME3060 Controls Systems, ME4550 Robotics, ME 5xxx Mechatronics, ME5xxx Vibration, ME5xxx Robot & Flight Kinematics, ME6xxx Robot Dynamics and Controls and ME6xxx State-Space Control. Additional areas of interest include, but are not limited, to Artificial Intelligence (AI) based controls/modeling of robot dynamics, computer-vision/visual servoing, diffusion modeling, Agentic AI, and the development of undergraduate and graduate mechanical engineering technical electives in the area of Dynamics, Controls, Robotics, & AI.

- A Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or closely related area
- At least three years of industry or lab experience
Preferred
- A Ph.D. in Mechanical/Mechatronics/Robotics/Controls Engineering
- At least five years of industry or lab experience
- Teaching experience at the University level along with positive evaluations are a plus
