This position is funded, in full or in part, through grant allocations or student enrollment-based funding sources. Continued employment (or the position’s hourly workload) is contingent upon the availability of future funding, as determined on yearly basis.
Job Description and Overview:
Under the direction of the school principal and preschool program, the teacher is responsible for the education of assigned students and will create a flexible program and class environment favorable for learning and personal growth. The teacher will establish effective rapport with students; motivate pupils to develop skills, attitudes, and the knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for further education, and do so in accordance with each student's ability. Professional relations will be developed and maintained with other staff and parents.
The job of special education preschool teacher includes the essential duties of providing direct instruction and/or consultation services to students aged 3-5 with a range of disabilities.
Essential Functions:
- Perform student evaluation(s) and progress monitoring assessments.
- Collect data regularly regarding skills across developmental domains.
- Review student evaluation(s) information with the purpose of determining eligibility for special education services
- Teaches subject matter, utilizing the Preschool Standards adopted by the Board of Education, correlated with other appropriate learning activities.
- Effectively communicate information both verbally and in writing with parents and colleagues.
- Maintain confidentiality and accuracy of all special education student records.
- Develop and implement Individual Education Programs (IEPs).
- Lift students (up 50 pounds) for the purpose of diapering, performing transfers, transitions, and position changes.
- Administer assistance to medically fragile children.
- Plan and implement positive behavior supports, behavior plans, and interventions as needed.
- Provide instruction based on adopted curriculum and aligned with the Utah Early Childhood Core Standards.
- Create and maintain a safe and developmentally appropriate learning environment.
- Supervise staff assistants and provide appropriate coaching and feedback.
- Shop/purchase (using delineated district purchasing procedures) materials and supplies.
- Supervise students loading/unloading buses.
- Demonstrates professional ethics as outlined by the Utah Professional Practices Advisory Commission.
- Conforms to district policies including attendance, absences and evaluations.
- Attendance must be adequate to acceptably perform listed job functions.
- Possesses problem solving skills.
- Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with students, school staff, district staff, and patrons.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Attendance is an Essential Function of this Position: Physical presence at the worksite is an essential function of this position. The role requires in-person collaboration, direct interaction with team members, other staff, students, and/or guardians, and access to on-site equipment and resources.
Other Functions:
- Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.
Degree and License Requirements:
- Special Education degree/licensure in Early Childhood Special Education - birth to age 5
- Hold a current educator license in the State of Utah
- Previous experience working in special education or related field preferred
- Optional: Enrollment in an Early Childhood Special Education program with a previous bachelors degree
Physical Requirements:
- Able to lift up to 50 pounds
- Assume and maintain a variety of postures (kneeling, squatting, bending, standing, and sitting in student-size chairs) for extended periods of time
- Utilize quick body movements to maintain safety and implement student behavior plans
- May require working with bio-hazards (blood borne pathogens, human waste, cleaning/disinfecting materials, etc.)
