Job Overview and Purpose Statement
The job of Maintenance Assistant was established for the purpose/s of maintaining facilities for students, staff, and public in a safe operating condition; performing preventive maintenance; and resolving immediate operational and/or safety concerns.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assists in the demolition of (e.g. equipment, facilities, and structures) for the purpose of ensuring safety and/or preparing for new construction.
- Assists journey-level craftsmen (e.g. carpenters, electricians, painters, etc.) for the purpose of supporting them in the completion or their work activities.
- Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities. (Example. Tech, signage panels, TV brackets, whiteboard removal and installation.)
- Assists with snow removal (e.g. shovels, operates snow blower and/or snowplow) for the purpose of ensuring a safe environment.
- Assist in installing, servicing and Retro fitting commercial steel door frames, Hollow metal door/s and all hardware I.E. closures, Hinges, Entry Hardware.
- Assist in field work including, conducting onsite assessments, measuring, modifying steel frames, fabricating parts as needed.
- Builds items (e.g. walls, temporary partitions, etc.) for the purpose of modifying and/or adapting facilities to specific needs.
- Diagnoses malfunctions of security systems for the purpose of identifying repair/replacement needs necessary to maintain systems.
- Estimates repair or construction requirements for the purpose of ensuring the availability of materials and equipment as needed.
- Assist in installation of security systems (e.g. door and window locks, combination locks, cabinet and desk locks and hardware; panic hardware; etc.) for the purpose of providing security of facilities, equipment and supplies.
- Assist in installation of system component parts, classroom and office equipment and facility components for the purpose of maintaining facilities in a safe, comfortable and operating condition.
- Duplicates keys for the purpose of ensuring that locks and hardware installed meet fire, building, ADA and other code requirements.
- Maintains work areas, tools and/or equipment for the purpose of ensuring a safe working environment and/or the availability of equipment in safe operating condition.
- Coordinates projects with district personnel, other trades, and/or outside contractors (e.g. equipment and/or material needs, maintenance of equipment, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the availability of materials/equipment and/or completing projects and work orders efficiently.
- Performs routine preventive maintenance on equipment,doors, locks and fixtures, etc. for the purpose of ensuring the availability of items in good working condition.
- Responds to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns.
- Transports various items (e.g. tools, equipment, supplies, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the availability of materials required at the job site.
- Attendance is an Essential Function of this Position
- Physical presence at the worksite is an essential function of this position. The role requires in-person collaboration, direct interaction with team members, other staff, students, and/or guardians, and access to on-site equipment and resources.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
- Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.
- Assists with snow removal (e.g. shovels, operating snow blower and/or snowplow, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring a safe environment.
- Maintains tools and/or equipment for the purpose of ensuring the availability of equipment in safe operating condition.
- Responds to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns.
- Other duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements
Very heavy work: Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. The work also requires the following physical abilities in order to perform the essential job functions; balancing, climbing, crawling, crouching, feeling, fingering, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, lifting, mental acuity, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity and walking.
Working Conditions
Employees in this position work in a dynamic environment that requires them to be sensitive to change and responsive to changing goals, priorities, and needs. Will work on Ladders, scaffolding, and lifts.
Job Requirements and Minimum Qualifications
- Must have a current drivers license.
- Must be able to operate equipment used in trade including general hand and power tools, saws, threaders, manlift, forklift, etc.
- Must have knowledge of safety practices and procedures; and health standards and hazards.
- Must be able to adapt to changing work priorities; and meeting deadlines and schedules.
- Experience: 3-4 years previous experience preferred.
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent is required.
