Telecom Project Manager

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Project Manager (Telecom & Fiber) to oversee project governance, financial health, and operational reporting across our telecommunications and fiber deployment programs.

In this role, you will be the central operational link between field deployment, engineering, and finance. Rather than hands-on field engineering, your primary focus will be managing project budgets, building multi-phase capital expenditure (CapEx) forecasts, tracking vendor milestones, and delivering executive-level progress reports and dashboards.

Key Responsibilities

Budgeting, Forecasting & Financial Management

• Build, maintain, and reconcile project budgets, cost-to-complete models, and rolling monthly/quarterly spend forecasts for regional fiber builds and network expansion initiatives.
• Monitor purchase orders (POs), invoicing, vendor billings, and change orders to ensure alignment with contractual milestones and approved capital budgets.
• Perform variance analysis (budget vs. actuals) and identify cost-saving opportunities or scope risks early in the deployment lifecycle.
• Manage project financial closeout processes, ensuring all asset entries, vendor reconciliations, and billing milestones are finalized.

Reporting & Performance Dashboards

• Design, automate, and publish weekly/monthly project status reports, KPI dashboards, and executive updates highlighting schedule velocity, budget health, and risk registers.
• Maintain data integrity across CRM and tracking tools (e.g., Salesforce, Smartsheet, MS Excel), ensuring all timeline gates and budgetary figures are current.
• Track contractor and vendor performance metrics (on-time delivery, cost variance, SLA adherence) and present trend analyses to senior leadership.

Project Governance & Delivery Oversight

• Coordinate cross-functional work streams between Engineering, Permitting/Right-of-Way (ROW), Supply Chain, Network Operations, and external construction partners.
• Monitor overall project timelines from planning and permitting through delivery, mitigating schedule bottlenecks and cost overruns.
• Support RFP and vendor bid analysis by reviewing scope of work (SOW) submissions against target budgetary baselines.
• Lead recurring project review meetings with internal stakeholders, external vendors, and enterprise clients as needed.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Experience: 5 years of project management experience within the telecommunications, fiber optic, broadband, or network infrastructure sector.
• Financial Acumen: Proven experience managing large capital budgets ($5M ), cost forecasting, variance reporting, and financial tracking for multi-site deployment programs.
• Analytics & Tool Proficiency:
• • Advanced MS Excel skills (financial modeling, formulas, pivot tables, dashboards).
  • Hands-on proficiency with CRM/PM platforms such as Salesforce, Smartsheet, Jira, or MS Project.
  • Experience with business intelligence/reporting tools (Power BI, Tableau) is a plus.
• Domain Knowledge: Strong working understanding of the telecom/fiber deployment lifecycle (OSP/ISP builds, permitting, engineering, splicing, and handoff) sufficient to evaluate project risks and cost drivers.
• Communication & Organization: Outstanding written and verbal communication skills; ability to translate operational and financial data into clear summaries for non-technical stakeholders and executive leadership.
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Project Management, Telecommunications, or equivalent practical experience. PMP or CAPM certification is preferred.
