Position Summary
The Operations Engineering Specialist supports the development and improvement of
production-focused tools, workflows, and operational systems that enhance the efficiency and scalability of telecom engineering operations. This role bridges production operations, GIS systems, automation development, and enterprise data initiatives to support Outside Plant (OSP) engineering, permitting, Make Ready Engineering (MRE), QA/QC, and reporting functions.
The ideal candidate combines operational telecom knowledge with technical expertise and understands how production teams function in real-world delivery environments. This position works closely with program managers, production teams, GIS personnel, and enterprise data stakeholders to improve workflows, automate repetitive processes, and develop scalable operational solutions.
What You’ll Do
- Develop and improve operational workflows and automation tools supporting OSP engineering and production teams
- Collaborate with Design, MRE, Permitting, QC, GIS, and PMO teams to identify production challenges and implement scalable solutions
- Create and maintain automation workflows using tools such as FME, Python, ArcGIS Pro, and related GIS/engineering platforms
- Support development of operational dashboards, reporting systems, and production tracking tools
- Assist in standardizing production processes, schemas, and enterprise data integrations
- Develop tools and workflows to improve QA/QC, reporting accuracy, and production efficiency
- Support enterprise GIS and database integration initiatives while maintaining alignment with operational needs
- Troubleshoot workflow issues, identify root causes, and implement long-term process improvements
- Coordinate with production leadership to prioritize operational development requests and technical initiatives
- Participate in testing, deployment, and documentation of operational tools and workflows
- Support AI-assisted process optimization and production tooling initiatives
- Assist in maintaining sustainable deployment practices and enterprise compatibility standards
- Create and maintain technical documentation, process guides, and workflow standards
- Provide technical support and guidance to production personnel related to operational tooling and workflows
- Stay current on emerging technologies, software platforms, and industry best practices related to telecom operations and automation
- Other duties as assigned
What You’ll Need
- To be 18 years of age or older
- Authorization to work in the United States for this company
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent required
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in GIS, Geography, Engineering Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, Telecommunications, or related field preferred
- 3 years of telecommunications OSP engineering, GIS, permitting, MRE, or related operational experience preferred
- Experience with operational workflows and production environments within telecom engineering organizations preferred
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt in a fast-paced operational environment
- Strong communication and collaboration skills across technical and operational teams
Knowledge Of
- Telecommunications industry standards and OSP workflows
- Aerial, buried, and underground construction methods and engineering requirements
- Fiber optic network design, assignments, and splicing concepts
- GIS systems and enterprise data environments
- Workflow automation and operational process improvement
- QA/QC processes and production reporting
- Government permitting and utility coordination processes
- Production tracking and operational metrics
Technical Experience With
- FME
- Python
- ArcGIS Pro / ESRI platforms
