Position Summary
WATT Fuel Cell is seeking an Entry-Level Software Engineer to build practical automation tools and support software used across engineering and business operations. Key Responsibilities
· Write, test, maintain, and improve Python scripts for automation, data handling, and internal tools.
· Apply C programming fundamentals to support utilities, existing code, and systems-related development tasks.
· Automate repetitive workflows involving files, reports, data entry, test information, or internal processes.
· Debug software issues, interpret error messages, identify root causes, and implement practical fixes.
· Work with engineering, operations, and business team members to understand needs and translate them into useful software solutions.
· Support the integration of software tools with structured data, files, equipment outputs, databases, or internal systems.
· Write clear code comments and document setup steps, changes, and repeatable processes.
· Use version control and follow established development, review, testing, and release practices.
· Learn WATT’s existing systems, development practices, manufacturing workflows, and product environment.
· Contribute ideas that improve reliability, efficiency, data visibility, and user experience.
· Perform other software-development and technical duties as assigned.
Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, computer engineering, or a related field, or equivalent demonstrated project experience.
· Basic Python experience gained through coursework, personal projects, internships, bootcamps, or prior employment.
· Basic understanding of C programming, including variables, functions, control flow, pointers, and compiling code.
· Familiarity with scripting, automation, or developing programs that solve practical problems.
· Basic familiarity with Git or another version-control system.
· Comfort using a command line or willingness to learn.
· Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and persistence when troubleshooting.
· Ability to communicate clearly, ask effective questions, accept feedback, and work collaboratively.
· Interest in using software to improve engineering, manufacturing, and business processes.
Preferred Attributes
· Experience working with CSV, Excel, text files, JSON, or other structured data.
· Exposure to SQL, databases, APIs, web requests, or data visualization.
