The Information Technology Division (ITD) exists to leverage technology to enhance and sustain business processes, public safety infrastructure, and statewide emergency communications to facilitate the accomplishment of all agency goals.

Duties

A System Administrator Senior position is responsible for all facets of IT infrastructure support. This ensures all hardware systems, cloud systems and SaaS/PaaS systems are always fully functional. System Administration employees are also tasked with some Application administration duties for enterprise level systems.

This particular position is responsible for the implementation and administration of the agency's secure file transfer system, cluster and Virtual Machine (VM) systems and the planning and support of general server infrastructure in multiple data centers and fourteen offices throughout Washington State. This support includes operational maintenance and health assessment of the systems, resolution of work order requests, patching, upgrading, configuration and change management, documentation, service mapping, hygiene assurance, threat assessment, and capacity planning. The position utilizes a client/server-based technical skillset and utilizes expertise to ensure systems continue to efficiently, securely, and robustly meet and exceed the needs of the agency now and in the future.

Our new teammate will be able to:

  • Performs duties of a Senior System Administrator.
  • Install and connect enterprise hardware and related infrastructure.
  • Set up and configure cloud systems.
  • Provision core server infrastructure supports components.
  • Provision infrastructure servers.
  • Provision Hyper-V Replica workload instances.
  • Deploy server hardware driver and firmware updates on a scheduled basis to ensure enterprise-wise consistency.
  • Decommission retired systems and prepare any hardware for surplus or destruction.
  • Troubleshoot and problem solve system issues when necessary.
  • Participate in the installation and capture of physical server hardware images.
  • Review and update hardware elevations, connectivity diagrams, and equipment tracking sheets.
  • Actively assess the health, performance, and security postures of agency systems and implement enhancements and corrective actions as necessary to ensure maximum overall system integrity and availability.
  • Plans, implements, administers, troubleshoots, and enhances the agency's.
  • Globalscape Enhanced File Transfer (EFT) system.
  • Computer Imaging activities.
  • Azure Cloud Administration and other efforts.
  • In-Car Digital Video System.
  • Actively assess the health, performance, and security postures of the system and implement enhancements and corrective actions as necessary to ensure maximum overall system integrity and availability.
  • Provision system resources.
  • Troubleshoot and remediate reported issues as the highest level of customer support escalation.
  • Implement system configuration changes to satisfy customer needs and ensure system reliability.
  • Install application updates, upgrades, patches, cumulative service releases, etc.
  • Create and maintain Windows install images.
  • Participate in "cloud" efforts and other activities as requested.
  • Provision remote locations with system servers, racks, and other equipment as necessary to provide support to WSP employees in those locations.
  • Troubleshoot and remediate reported issues as the highest level of customer support escalation.
  • Work with hardware and application vendors to resolve issues when needed.
  • Implement system configuration changes to satisfy customer needs and ensure system reliability.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field of IT engineering.
  • Work experience in an Enterprise, Military or DOD IT operations field may be substituted for education year for year.
  • 4 to 5 years’ experience at the senior level (normally attained after a total of 12 to 15 years) as an IT professional in an organization supporting 24x7 critical systems.
  • Demonstrated 4-5 years of senior-level experience with the following technologies:
  • Windows Server 2019 and newer server operating systems
  • Windows Hyper-V
  • Hyperconverged Clusters
  • Windows 11 and newer client operating systems
  • IP networking includes routing, switching, and a thorough understanding of popular IP protocols
  • Windows PowerShell
  • Windows Admin Console
  • Microsoft System Center suite

NOTE: This is not a full-time telework position. Candidates must be able and willing to work in the office and commute to here. A hybrid work schedule may be available after training and/or probationary period has been successfully completed. Pay: $94,620.00 - $127,248.00 per year
