DSHS ESA DDDS Fiscal Analyst 5

Internal Only: This position is open to current DSHS employees only.

DSHS’s Economic Services Administration , Division of Disability Determination Services (DDDS) , is seeking a Fiscal Analyst 5 to oversee the Medical Claims Unit (MCU), providing leadership, direction, and operational oversight for a team responsible for processing medical claims statewide. This role supervises Fiscal Analyst 3 Leads and Fiscal Analyst 2 staff, ensuring effective workflow management, high-quality production, and timely completion of unit responsibilities. The position monitors personnel actions, assigns tasks aligned with agency goals, and upholds performance expectations while fostering a collaborative, accountable, and service-oriented work environment.

Note: This position is a hybrid office/telework role, with occasional travel required to attend trainings and meetings.

Some Of What You'll Do

  • Supervise the Medical Claims Unit (MCU), providing leadership, direction, and oversight to Fiscal Analyst 3 Leads and Fiscal Analyst 2 staff.
  • Review and approve leave requests, complete performance development plans, and recommend corrective actions when necessary.
  • Interview, train, mentor, and support MCU staff to ensure strong performance and professional growth.
  • Facilitate regular meetings to keep staff informed of current procedures, expectations, and operational updates.
  • Develop and implement efficient work methods and processes that strengthen internal controls for medical claims processing.
  • Serve as the technical expert for DCPS within the MCU, advising staff and management on policy, procedural, and system changes.
  • Create, revise, and implement policies and procedures to ensure consistent and compliant medical claims processing, and train staff on updates.
  • Analyze and prepare Financial Toolbox spreadsheets for uploading medical payments into AFRS, ensuring accuracy, proper accounting techniques, and timely submission to SSA.
  • Verify vendor registration and data accuracy in AFRS and DCPS, correct spreadsheet errors, and prepare weekly unit status reports and financial data as needed.

Who should apply?

We welcome applicants who have a bachelor’s degree and at least 18 quarter (12 semester) credit hours in accounting, auditing, or budgeting and a minimum of four years of relevant professional experience.

Professional experience may substitute for the degree but not for the required accounting-related credit hours.

A master’s degree in a financial field or a professional certification such as Public Accountant, Internal Auditor, Certified Governmental Financial Manager or Management Accountant may substitute for some of the required experience.

Equivalent combinations of education and/or experience will be considered.
