What are the responsibilities and job description for the Underground Construction Quality Control Inspector position at Wapsi Banks LLC?
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Quality Control (QC) Inspector to ensure the quality and compliance of fiber optic underground construction projects. The QC Inspector will inspect all phases of construction, verify work meets customer specifications and industry standards, document project progress, and work closely with field crews to ensure projects are completed safely, accurately, and on schedule.
Essential Responsibilities
Inspect all phases of underground fiber optic construction, including trenching, plowing, directional drilling, conduit installation, handholes, vaults, and restoration.
Verify conduit placement, depth, spacing, bend radius, tracer wire, pull tape, and other installation requirements meet customer specifications and engineering plans.
Inspect directional bore entry and exit pits, conduit installations, and restoration for quality and compliance.
Review construction against engineering prints, utility locates, and project specifications.
Identify deficiencies and communicate required corrections to field supervisors and project management.
Document inspections with detailed notes, measurements, and photographs using mobile devices or tablets.
Complete daily quality reports and maintain accurate project documentation.
Verify proper traffic control, erosion control, and restoration practices are being followed.
Coordinate with project managers, customers, inspectors, and utility representatives as needed.
Perform final project inspections and assist with punch list completion before customer acceptance.
Promote and enforce company safety policies and OSHA regulations.
Qualifications
Experience in underground fiber optic or telecommunications construction preferred.
Working knowledge of directional drilling, trenching, conduit installation, handholes, vaults, and fiber optic infrastructure.
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, construction plans, and utility maps.
Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational skills.
Effective communication and problem-solving abilities.
Comfortable using tablets, smartphones, and Microsoft Office for reporting and documentation.
Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
Ability to travel between job sites.
Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and walk uneven terrain.
Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience in Quality Control, Inspection, Construction Management, or Fiber Optic Construction.
Knowledge of telecommunications construction standards and customer specifications.
OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification is a plus.
Experience working with as-built documentation and project closeout packages.
Pay: $30.00 - $35.00 per hour
