DEFINITION: The Lab Technician Assistant performs laboratory analysis, evaluates laboratory results and reports results promptly and accurately; recognizes and solves basic laboratory problems; and assists in maintenance of laboratory systems in care and treatment of individuals served by the Walker River Tribal Health Clinic (WRTHC). This position will also assist medical records in their daily duties, as needed. and#10;DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: and#10; Oversees the daily functions of the WRTHC medical laboratory, including operational hours and ordering supplies, and ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws. and#10;Draws and collects specimens for patients and prepares the specimens for routine testing on-site or packages them for referral to the reference laboratory. and#10;Performs/monitors limited routine tests in hematology, chemistry, urinalysis and serology. and#10;Reports laboratory test results to the ordering provider in a timely manner. and#10;Monitors when referral laboratory reports are sent and returned. and#10;Performs routine laboratory testing available, within compliance and under the supervision of a physician, nurse practitioner or registered nurse. and#10;Assist with daily identification of scheduled patients whom are due for preventative and chronic care labs to ensure maximum packing of visit and all needs are addressed. and#10;Follow procedures established for universal precautions and sterile techniques. and#10;Clean and prepare the lab treatment room on a daily basis or more often, as necessary. and#10;Utilize current computer software programs to identify patient needs. and#10;Enters information into electronic health record as appropriate. and#10;Ensure the accuracy of the laboratory tests performed in the lab by performing and verifying validity of Quality Control in accordance with policies and procedures. and#10;Perform preventative maintenance on the lab equipment according to established maintenance schedule/procedure and troubleshoots all instruments when problems arise. and#10;Verify instrument function by performing quality control and calibration when necessary and/or required and documents all repairs, replacement, and maintenance of laboratory equipment on instrument log. and#10;Assist with restocking of supplies in the lab and medical area, making copies, faxing, shredding, gathering monthly workload data and record filing. and#10;Maintain an appropriate inventory of laboratory supplies, forms, patient handouts, and routine equipment. and#10;Safely and proficiently operates equipment within level of expertise. and#10;Provides patient education material and information as directed. and#10;Alert appropriate WRTHC personnel to problems and difficulties with the laboratory area or patient care issues, as circumstances may warrant. and#10;Attend staff and other meetings, in-services, and other events as directed by supervisor. and#10;Follow HIPPA guidelines for maintaining confidentiality with all patient related information. and#10;Scan patient charts in the EHR i.e. lab results, etc. and#10;Triage patients as needed. and#10;Other job duties as assigned by the supervisor. and#10;KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES: and#10; Working knowledge of laboratory functions in a clinical setting. and#10;Working knowledge of specialized laboratory testing and reporting equipment. and#10;Knowledge of Universal Precautions, Safety Data Sheets (SDS), generally accepted safety practices and quality control practices for lab services. and#10;Ability to function in a fast-paced environment, to interact positively with individuals in distress, and to deal appropriately with potential medical emergencies. and#10;Demonstrates good public relations and customer service skills. and#10;Proven ability to work effectively as a team member. and#10;Knowledge of computer applications. and#10;Ability to work independently under general administrative and medical direction. and#10;Ability to prioritize asks without compromising quality patient care or service. and#10;Maintain strict confidentiality and safeguard the privacy of patients in common areas of the clinic. and#10;Demonstrate tact, courtesy, and respect in communication and interaction with patients, visitors, and staff and with outside agencies and programs. and#10;QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: and#10; Associate Degree level and/or successful completion of an Associates of Applied Science. and#10;Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) Certification or able to able certification within 6 months through accredited entity; or two (2) years of specialized experience performing laboratory tests/examinations in a medical/clinical setting. and#10;Must have a valid Nevada Driver's License and able to be covered under the Tribe's insurance and#10;Must successfully pass a background check and#10;Must submit a pre-employment and alcohol test
