Role: Engineering Associate
Location: South Bend IN - Onsite
Duration: 12 Months contract
Job Summary:
The Distribution Design Specialist will utilize DDS software to analyze utility distribution poles to support the installation of grid-modernization equipment and line rebuilds associated with transmission and station projects. This role is responsible for tracking project due dates, ensuring design accuracy, and collaborating closely with design teams, Project Managers, and line coordinators to deliver high-quality engineering solutions.
Key Responsibilities
1. Technical Analysis & Design
- Utilize DDS software to evaluate distribution poles for grid modernization projects and transmission/station line rebuilds.
- Apply technical knowledge of standards, codes, and regulations relevant to the assignment.
- Develop familiarity with utility equipment, materials, systems, and internal business processes.
- Assist with routine problem-solving tasks and contribute to improving design quality.
2. Collaboration & Guidance
- Work under the direction of senior team members to complete design activities.
- Coordinate with design teams, PMs, and line coordinators to ensure all project requirements are met.
- Seek assistance when needed and support team members by sharing information effectively.
3. Planning & Organization
- Plan and prioritize day-to-day work in alignment with client standards and project timelines.
- Maintain accurate records, documentation, and progress tracking for assigned projects.
4. Problem Solving & Continuous Improvement
- Apply technical skills and experience to troubleshoot design challenges.
- Actively identify opportunities to enhance processes and increase technical proficiency.
- Gather, analyze, and interpret relevant information to support engineering decisions.
5. Communication & Interpersonal Skills
- Communicate clearly and professionally in both verbal and written formats with internal teams and external partners.
- Assist with preparation of technical reports, documentation, and project updates.
- Demonstrate teamwork, openness, and a collaborative attitude.

Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent plus 2 years of related utility industry experience, or
- Associate’s Degree in Electrical, Electronic, Civil, or Mechanical Engineering Technology (or related discipline).
