AVAILABLE BEFORE 10/1/2026
Job Type: Full-Time

Schedule: Monday-Friday

Work Arrangement: In Person / Field-Based

About The Opportunity

We are seeking a Technical Account Manager with a strong background in tool & die, precision machining, custom fabrication, or manufacturing to develop and grow customer relationships across the Carolinas and eastern Georgia.

This is not a traditional product-sales position. Our customers come to us with production challenges and custom manufacturing needs-from tooling and production parts to fabrication, process improvements, custom machinery, and automation.

The ideal candidate understands manufacturing from the shop-floor perspective and can have meaningful technical conversations with plant managers, engineers, production teams, and other manufacturing professionals.

This position will focus approximately 50% on managing and growing existing accounts and 50% on developing new business.

Location & Territory

Candidates should be based in or near one of the following markets:

  • Columbia, SC
  • Charlotte, NC
  • Greenville, SC
  • Charleston, SC
  • Augusta, GA

The territory is primarily within approximately three hours of Columbia, SC, allowing for day trips. Overnight travel will be rare.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and grow an established portfolio of manufacturing accounts.
  • Build strong relationships with existing customers and identify opportunities to expand business within their facilities.
  • Prospect for and develop new manufacturing accounts throughout the assigned territory.
  • Make outbound calls, schedule customer visits, and develop new business opportunities.
  • Visit manufacturing facilities and engage directly with plant personnel, engineers, production teams, and decision-makers.
  • Walk plant floors, understand customer operations, identify production challenges, and determine where manufacturing solutions may be appropriate.
  • Translate customer needs and technical problems into opportunities that can be evaluated and quoted by internal estimating, engineering, and production teams.
  • Develop opportunities involving precision machining, tool & die, custom fabrication, metal stamping, wire EDM, production parts, process improvement, custom machinery, and automation.
  • Coordinate with estimating, engineering, and production throughout the quoting and project process.
  • Follow opportunities from initial customer conversation through quoting and project execution.
  • Maintain consistent communication with customers and internal teams.
  • Manage your own schedule, pipeline, customer follow-ups, and field activities.
  • Spend at least two days per week in the field visiting customers and prospects.

Required Qualifications

  • Professional experience in tool & die, precision machining, custom fabrication, or a related manufacturing environment.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and how tooling, machining, fabrication, and production operations work.
  • Familiarity with tooling design and build, progressive tooling operations, custom fabrication, or precision machining.
  • Ability to understand customer production challenges and identify potential manufacturing solutions.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build relationships with manufacturing professionals.
  • Comfortable making outbound calls, developing new business, and independently managing a sales territory.
  • Self-motivated and able to plan and manage your own schedule.
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel at least two days per week.
  • Must be based in or near Columbia, Charlotte, Greenville, Charleston, or Augusta.

Preferred Qualifications

The following experience is helpful but not required:

  • Previous experience as a Machinist, Toolmaker, Fabricator, Estimator, Manufacturing Engineer, or similar manufacturing professional.
  • Previous customer-facing or business development experience within manufacturing.
  • Experience selling custom manufacturing, tooling, machinery, equipment, or engineering solutions.
  • Experience working with SolidWorks or other CAD/drafting software.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and manufacturing prints.
  • Existing relationships with manufacturing companies or plants throughout the Carolinas or eastern Georgia.
  • Experience working with custom or engineered-to-order products rather than commodity or catalog-based products.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for someone who can speak the language of manufacturing.

You should be comfortable walking into a manufacturing facility, understanding what is happening on the floor, asking the right questions, identifying potential opportunities, and then working with internal engineering and production teams to develop a solution.

A technical manufacturing background is essential. Candidates with a purely sales-oriented background and no meaningful exposure to machining, tooling, fabrication, or manufacturing may not be a good fit.

  • 401(k) matching
