The ideal candidate has a strong background in estimating, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with project managers, clients, subcontractors, and vendors. This role plays a key part in securing profitable projects and supporting successful project execution.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed conceptual, budgetary, and hard-bid estimates.
- Review plans, specifications, and contract documents to determine project scope.
- Perform quantity takeoffs and develop labor, equipment, and material pricing.
- Solicit, evaluate, and level subcontractor and supplier quotations.
- Identify project risks, value engineering opportunities, and cost-saving alternatives.
- Lead bid reviews and present estimate summaries to leadership.
- Coordinate with project management, operations, and business development teams throughout the bidding process.
- Develop bid schedules and ensure deadlines are met.
- Maintain historical cost databases and estimating standards.
- Mentor junior estimators and assist in developing estimating best practices.
- Participate in client meetings, pre-bid conferences, and project handoffs.
Required:
- 5 years of construction estimating experience.
- Proven experience estimating projects ranging from $1 million to $50 million (adjust as appropriate).
- Strong knowledge of commercial, industrial, civil, or heavy construction, including high-end custom homes.
- Proficiency with estimating software such as HCSS Heavy Bid, Sage Estimating, Bluebeam, PlanSwift, OST, JobTread, or similar.
- Excellent understanding of construction methods, scheduling, and project management.
- Strong communication, negotiation, and organizational skills.
- Ability to interpret architectural, structural, civil, and MEP drawings.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office.
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field.
- Professional certifications such as Certified Professional Estimator (CPE) or equivalent.
- Experience with design-build and negotiated projects.
