Join our client's advanced machining group as a Senior CNC Programmer. You will CAM program complex, prototype and production parts on 3 and 4-axis mills, live-tool lathes, and wire EDM CNC machines for aerospace, defense, and energy customers.
This role encompasses all aspects of CNC programming-from CAM toolpaths and fixture design through simulation and post processing-while mentoring junior programmers and refining company-wide programming standards.
This is a dynamic position that will require a degree of flexibility regarding the percentage of time allocated daily to each duty outlined here. Requirements will change according to staffing numbers and outstanding work orders. Adaptability is paramount.
Position Responsibilities
Program CNC mills and lathes using SolidCAM, including 3 and 4-axis operations
Read and interpret complex engineering drawings with GD&T and 3D CAD models
Determine proper tooling, cutting strategies, speeds, and feeds for optimal part production
Research and procure necessary tooling, including specialty / custom tools
Collaborate with machinists and engineers to ensure part accuracy and process efficiency
Perform simulations, verify toolpaths, and optimize programs for quality and cycle time
Assist in fixture and setup planning for new jobs
Follow standardized Programming Procedure to ensure organization, traceability, and consistency
Maintain program records, tool libraries, and revision control
Coordinate with machinists to create tool lists to pre-set NC tooling for incoming work orders, keeping machinist and operator down time to a minimum
Develop and maintain daily/weekly processing plan with the manufacturing manager and department leaders by attending weekly production meeting (use weekly work order log)
Skills & Qualifications
5 years of CNC programming experience in a precision machining environment
Expert in SolidCAM and SolidWorks or Mastercam (will require transitioning to SolidCAM)
Comprehensive understanding of GD&T, blueprint reading, and experience working with a wide range of materials including aluminum, stainless, and exotic alloys.
Proficiency in G-code, post-processing, and machine tool setup.
Proven ability to research and procure proper tooling for diverse materials and operations.
Advanced knowledge of cutting tools, technology and material removal.
Familiarity with ISO 9001 / AS9100 systems; thorough program documentation and revision control
Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot with cross-functional teams and mentor less-experienced staff.
