The role reports into lab leadership and works closely with a cross-functional measurement services team.
What You'll Work On
- Perform and oversee calibrations in one or more core areas, such as:
- Electrical/RF: multimeters, power meters, oscilloscopes, power supplies, spectrum analyzers, signal generators
- Temperature: RTDs, thermocouples, thermo-hygrometers
- Pressure: transmitters, gauges, manometers
- Support additional disciplines (torque, mass, dimensional, flow) where qualified.
- Develop, review, and update automated calibration procedures and keep the procedure database current with the latest revisions.
- Assist with writing, validating, and implementing methods and work instructions into lab processes.
- Monitor quality control activities, verify calibration results, and ensure nonconforming standards or equipment are promptly identified and removed from service.
- Coordinate the scheduling and shipment of standards for external calibration, review returned certificates and data, and escalate issues to management.
- Participate in internal audits, proficiency tests, and inter-lab comparisons on a scheduled basis.
- Train and coach other lab personnel on proper techniques, safety practices, and troubleshooting approaches.
- Support risk assessments related to equipment, workload, and staffing, and report any potential impacts to quality or capability.
- Communicate with external customers on calibration requests and ensure the lab can meet their technical and turnaround requirements.
- Ensure work is completed on time and calibration certificates are prepared accurately for review and release.
- Practical experience in at least one calibration discipline (electrical/RF, temperature, or pressure); multi-discipline metrology experience is a strong plus.
- Familiarity with ISO/IEC 17025 requirements and how they apply in a calibration laboratory environment.
- Understanding of factors that can influence calibration standards and instruments under test, and how to minimize those influences.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills for complex measurement issues.
- Experience interacting directly with customers and a clear sense of urgency and responsiveness.
- Exposure to calibration automation software (e.g., systems similar to METTEAM/METCAL) and the ability to create or edit automated procedures is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of measurement uncertainty calculations and interpretation of instrument specifications is a plus.
