Position Overview
- Our client is seeking an experienced Fire Alarm Designer to support the design and execution of fire protection systems for commercial and industrial projects. This role is responsible for developing code-compliant system designs, producing detailed drawings, and collaborating with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery.
- This is an excellent opportunity for a detail-oriented professional with strong knowledge of fire alarm systems, CAD design, and applicable codes and standards.
- Design fire alarm systems in accordance with current NFPA standards (including NFPA 72)
- Create and modify detailed AutoCAD drawings and system layouts
- Identify building construction types and hazard classifications to determine appropriate protection systems
- Perform field surveys to gather dimensions and project requirements
- Develop material takeoffs, submittals, and project documentation
- Coordinate designs with other trades and resolve conflicts in complex projects
- Utilize Navisworks to perform clash detection and coordination reviews
- Ensure all designs meet quality standards, timelines, and project specifications
- Communicate effectively with customers, project teams, and internal departments
- Identify scope gaps and communicate contract vs. out-of-scope items
- Troubleshoot design issues and proactively resolve potential problems
- Support and mentor junior designers as needed
- Provide project updates and reports to leadership when leading projects
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Minimum 3 years of fire alarm or sprinkler system design experience
- Strong working knowledge of NFPA codes and standards, particularly NFPA 72
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and related design tools
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Mechanical aptitude and strong understanding of system layouts
- Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, and contracts
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
- Engineering or technical background
- Experience with Hydratec or similar design software
- NICET certification (Nice to Have)
- Experience leading projects or mentoring junior team members
- Attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong time management and prioritization skills
- Effective communication across teams and stakeholders
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
- Professionalism, integrity, and accountability
- Primarily office-based with occasional field/site visits
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, and use standard office equipment
