The Estimator is responsible for analyzing blueprints, specifications, and technical documentation to prepare accurate cost, time, and labor estimates for manufacturing projects. This role operates within a job shop environment specializing in critical machine parts, requiring strong expertise in quoting complex aerospace and military components.
Key Responsibilities
- Review project data to determine material, labor, and production requirements
- Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates for manufacturing jobs
- Compute cost factors for planning, scheduling, and bid preparation
- Support vendor and subcontractor selection based on cost-effectiveness
- Conduct time studies and establish standard labor hours
- Collaborate with clients, vendors, and internal teams to develop estimates
- Maintain and manage a centralized cost estimating database
- Utilize historical data to improve estimate accuracy
- Analyze completed projects to compare estimated vs. actual costs
- Identify discrepancies and recommend process improvements
- Track cost trends and support cost reduction initiatives
- Strong experience in quoting aerospace and military parts
- Familiarity with job shop manufacturing environments, especially for critical machined components
- Knowledge of Navy welding standards and specifications is highly preferred

- Mil-1688
- Mil-278
- MP-22
- Ability to perform all essential duties effectively
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
- Ability to collaborate across cross-functional teams
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent (5th-year college/university program preferred), or
- 2-4 years of related experience/training, or
- Equivalent combination of education and experience
Language Skills
- Ability to read and interpret technical documents, blueprints, and specifications
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency in probability, statistical analysis, geometry, and trigonometry
- Ability to apply ratios, percentages, and cost calculations effectively
- Strong problem-solving skills in variable and complex situations
- Ability to interpret technical instructions in multiple formats
- Experience with manufacturing and estimating software
- Proficiency in spreadsheets and word processing tools
- Occasional sitting, standing, and use of hands
- Ability to lift/move up to 25 lbs occasionally
- Close vision required for detailed technical work
- Exposure to manufacturing environments and moving mechanical parts
- Moderate noise levels, depending on the production area
- A combination of office and shop floor interaction
Salary : $120,000 - $180,000
