Key Responsibilities
Production Scheduling
- Create and maintain detailed schedules for cutting, machining, welding, assembly, coating, and related operations.
- Manage work-center load, capacity, and job sequencing.
- Develop weekly and monthly master production schedules.
- Identify workflow constraints and take corrective action to maintain schedule integrity.
- Maintain accurate job routing, cycle times, and WIP status within the ERP system (Business Central or similar).
- Ensure work orders move correctly through each fabrication stage.
- Provide accurate and timely schedule updates through ERP and supporting tools.
- Collaborate with engineering to align job release timing with design readiness.
- Communicate material needs and shortages with purchasing; follow up on expedited items.
- Coordinate with QC/NDE for inspection schedules and testing windows.
- Work closely with production supervisors to communicate schedule changes and priorities.
- Track schedule adherence and proactively flag slippage risks.
- Generate KPI reports, including work-center load, OTD, WIP aging, and constraint analysis.
- Support revenue forecasting and job status reporting.
- Recommend routing improvements, better workflow logic, and capacity modeling updates.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance scheduling accuracy.
- Support implementation of digital dispatch screens and ERP scheduling enhancements.
Required
- 3-5 years of experience in fabrication, machining, or equipment manufacturing scheduling.
- Strong understanding of routing, cycle times, job sequencing, and capacity planning.
- Hands-on experience with ERP/MRP systems (Business Central preferred).
- Ability to read engineering drawings, BOMs, weld maps, and job travelers.
- Strong communication, coordination, and organizational skills.
- Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, load charts, Gantt-style planning).
- Experience in high-mix, engineered-to-order (ETO) environments.
- Familiarity with pressure vessels, cold box modules, skids, or ASME fabrication processes.
- Experience with VAPS (Visual Advanced Production Scheduler).
- Lean / Theory of Constraints scheduling knowledge.
- Strong ownership and accountability.
- Detail-oriented with excellent follow-through.
- Ability to work effectively on the shop floor.
- Proactive problem-solving and priority management.
- Strong cross-functional communication.
