Job Title: 2nd Shift Quality Inspector
Reports To: Quality Assurance Manager
Shift: 2nd Shift - 3:30 PM to 12:00 Midnight
Rate: DOE - Hourly basis (plus 10% shift premium)
Purpose:
The 2nd Shift Quality Inspector ensures that all products meet customer specifications through first article, in-process, and final inspections. This role supports manufacturing, QA, and customer satisfaction by identifying non-conformances, recommending corrective actions, and maintaining accurate inspection records. The inspector plays a key role in continuous improvement programs and supports pursuit of ISO 9000, IATF, and AS9100 certifications.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Perform first article inspections, in-process inspections, and final inspections to ensure compliance with customer and internal specifications.
Conduct capability studies, PPAP, and statistical process control (SPC) analysis on production parts.
Utilize precision inspection tools, including micrometers, Vernier calipers, gage pins, OGP, and other hands-free inspection equipment, to measure and record dimensional readings.
Inspect flat sheet stock for dimensional, hardness, density, and yield strength characteristics.
Catalog, retain, and maintain production samples and inspection records in a timely and organized manner.
Monitor scrap and rejection logs; complete non-conforming notices and tags.
Assist in the development and implementation of quality inspection plans, sampling schedules, and continuous improvement programs.
Coordinate QA functions with production and shipping teams.
Investigate customer and supplier rejections and recommend corrective actions.
Maintain QA equipment and facilities in good working order and follow proper housekeeping and safety practices.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision during 2nd shift.
Minimum Requirements:
Experience in a precision machine shop, tool & die, or small metal stamping environment.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Competence using micrometers, Vernier calipers, gage pins, and other precision inspection tools (digital and analog).
Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) and ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
Experience with Statistical Process Control (SPC) and quality documentation practices.
Experience with Automotive, Medical, or Aerospace industries is a plus.
PPAP qualification experience preferred.
Strong analytical and mathematical skills.
Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to work independently.
Flexibility to operate a press during slow periods, if needed.
