Position Summary:
The candidate must have prior Sheetmetal Estimating experience and or Sheetmetal Fabrication / Field experience with strong computer skills. In this role, he/she would be responsible for accurately calculating and preparing cost estimates for sheet metal projects by analyzing blueprints and specifications. They will work closely with our project managers, engineers, and vendors to ensure that all bids are competitive, accurate, and profitable.
Essential Functions:
- Analyze project documents: Review and interpret project blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine the scope of work and requirements for sheet metal fabrication and installation.
- Perform detailed takeoffs: Conduct precise material quantity takeoffs for all sheet metal components, including ductwork, insulation, and fittings, using digital takeoff software.
- Prepare cost estimates: Assist in assembling detailed HVAC Estimates.
- Source vendor quotes: Solicit and evaluate pricing from qualified vendors and subcontractors to ensure the most competitive and accurate bid.
- Develop bid proposals: Prepare and submit clear, detailed, and competitive bid proposals in a timely manner.
- Maintain data and records: Update and maintain accurate estimating databases and project documentation for future reference and analysis.
- Collaborate with teams: Coordinate with project managers, sales, and engineering teams to clarify project details and ensure estimates align with project goals.
- Stay informed: Keep up to date with industry trends, material costs, and manufacturing methods to ensure the most accurate and competitive estimates.
Qualifications:
- A technical degree is preferred, but equivalent experience in the field, with the responsibilities/functions as mentioned above would be considered acceptable.
- Proven experience as a Sheet Metal Estimator or in a similar construction estimating role.
- Strong knowledge of sheet metal fabrication processes, HVAC systems, and industry standards, such as SMACNA guidelines.
- High proficiency in estimating software (e.g., QuickPen, Bluebeam, Trimble) and Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
- Exceptional ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and project specifications.
- Excellent analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills, with keen attention to detail.
- Strong communication and skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work effectively under tight deadlines.
Supervisory Responsibility:
This position has no supervisory responsibility.
Work Environment:
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
Physical Effort:
Light physical effort which requires handling of average-weight objects up to 15 pounds and some standing and walking.
Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 7:00 am to 4:00pm. Evening and weekend work will be required as job duties demand.
