Position Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) to oversee and ensure the quality and compliance of welding operations within our fabrication shop. The CWI will be responsible for inspecting welds, verifying procedures, maintaining documentation, and ensuring all work meets applicable codes, standards, and client specifications.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform visual and dimensional inspections of welds and fabricated components
- Ensure compliance with AWS, ASME, and/or customer-specific codes and standards
- Review and interpret welding procedures (WPS), procedure qualification records (PQR), and welder qualification records (WQTR)
- Monitor welding activities to ensure proper techniques and procedures are followed
- Identify weld defects and recommend corrective actions
- Maintain accurate inspection reports, logs, and documentation
- Coordinate with production, quality, and engineering teams
- Conduct or assist with welder qualification tests
- Ensure calibration and proper use of inspection tools and equipment
- Enforce safety and quality standards within the shop
- Support audits and customer inspections as required
Qualifications:
- Current AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification (required)
- High school diploma or GED (technical degree preferred)
- Minimum 3–5 years of welding inspection or fabrication experience
- Strong knowledge of MIG, TIG, Stick, and Flux Core welding processes
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, welding symbols, and specifications
- Familiarity with NDT methods (VT required; PT, MT, UT is a plus)
- Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy
- Good communication and teamwork skills
Preferred Certifications:
- Additional certifications (e.g., UT, MT, PT Level II)
- Experience in structural steel, pipe welding, pressure vessels, or heavy fabrication
- Knowledge of ISO quality systems
Work Environment:
- Fabrication / welding shop setting
- Exposure to industrial conditions; PPE required at all times
- Occasional overtime based on production schedules
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand, bend, and inspect parts for extended periods
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
- Comfortable working in shop environments with noise, heat, and fumes
- Ability to access tight or elevated inspection areas as needed
Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full-time position. Forty hours per week/10 hours per day/Monday through Thursday, 6:30am to 4:00pm. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
