A day in the fieldYou pick up your Vortex-provided service vehicle, review digital work orders, and head to your first stop—a warehouse dock with a sectional door out of alignment. You diagnose the issue, replace hardware, verify code compliance, and document the repair. Midday, you’re configuring closers and low-voltage access controls at a retail storefront. In the afternoon, you advise a property manager on cost-effective options for broken springs and worn hinges, wrap up with a thorough quality check, and finalize your notes. Tomorrow might bring automatic doors, hollow metal frames, or storefront glazing—no two days are the same.
What you’ll handle- Install, service, and troubleshoot a wide range of commercial doors, dock equipment, and related hardware using the right tools and methods.
- Track down root causes for issues like failed springs, hinges, locks, and electrical components; training available if you want to add welding to your toolkit.
- Set up locks, handles, closers, low-voltage, and access control devices with accuracy.
- Verify that every installation meets applicable safety requirements and building codes.
- Deliver outstanding customer service—explain findings, outline options, and recommend cost-effective solutions.
- Maintain precise records of visits, repairs, installations, and required reports.
- Perform final quality checks to ensure work meets Vortex’s unsurpassed standards.

- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 3 years of commercial door service experience with knowledge of door types, brands, and hardware.
- Skilled with hand and power tools; able to read a tape measure accurately and perform fraction-based math.
- Working understanding of safety regulations and consistent adherence to safety protocols.
- Mechanical and technical aptitude; computer literacy for service documentation.
- Physically capable of lifting 50 lbs, climbing ladders up to 20’, kneeling for extended periods, and operating power tools for sustained tasks.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills; persuasive when guiding customers to the right solution.
- Resourceful problem solver who thrives in a fast-paced, results-oriented environment.
- Reliable and self-motivated with sharp attention to detail and quality craftsmanship.
- Full-time scheduling within 7:00 AM – 5:30 PM, Monday–Friday; some overtime and on-call work as needed.
