What are the responsibilities and job description for the Contract Licensed Counselor position at Volunteers of America Southeast Louisiana Inc?
JOB SUMMARY
This contract position is responsible for providing counseling services for individuals, groups, and couples, including adults and youth through the agency’s private insurance program. If the candidate is not already credentialed with the various insurance providers used by our agency, credentialing will happen within the first 30-120 days from the date of signing an agreement to provide contract counseling.
Lakeshore Counseling Center-Northshore office’s operating hours are 8:30 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, some Saturday and Sunday opportunities are available as well. The therapist would be able to define a set or flexible schedule based on counselor availability, the needs of the clients, and the appointment opportunities available. The number of hours a week varies based on the therapist's preference and the client's needs. Some telehealth opportunities are available based on credentialing.
Lakeshore Counseling Center-Southshore (New Orleans – Mid-City) office’s normal operating hours are Monday – Friday, 9:00 a.m.– 5:00 p.m. with the flexibility of 5-40 hrs. per week - with scheduled after-hours appointments available. Weekend and evening hours are provided as needed. Some telehealth opportunities are available based on credentialing.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide on-time, high-quality counseling services to clients
- Ensures diagnosis, treatment plan and notes are completed in a timely fashion within the agency’s Practice Management Software for Behavioral Health
- Ensures that services are provided according to standards established by VOASELA, Inc.

Maintains critical relationships with the following:
- Area physicians, attorneys, churches and social service networks
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
This position requires knowledge, skills, and abilities equivalent to:
- Master’s degree in human service Field and Licensure- LPT, LMFT, or LCSW required.
- Strong verbal communication skills and demonstrated ability to write clearly and persuasively
- Prior experience working with persons with emotional or mental health concerns
- Experience in different types of modalities
REQUIREMENTS:
This position requires the candidate to have the following:
- Professional liability insurance with $1,000,000/$3,000,000 coverage
- Current license through either the Louisiana State Board of Social Work Examiners or State of Louisiana Licensed Professional Counselors Board of Examiners
WORKING CONDITIONS
This position requires travel to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position. As such, the incumbent must have:
- Current driver’s license issued by the state of residence
- Current Vehicle Inspection decal
- Current vehicle insurance
- Current vehicle registration in the state of residence
- Satisfactory Motor Vehicle Report
