As a Counselor at BHG, you'll support patients in identifying their strengths and achieving social, educational, and occupational goals. You will guide individuals adjusting to a drug-free life, offering emotional and physical support throughout their recovery. Reporting to the Counselor Supervisor or Program Director, you'll ensure compliance with schedules, program policies, and all relevant regulatory requirements—performing within the scope of your licensure.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct individual and group counseling sessions focused on substance abuse recovery.
- Orient patients to treatment procedures and program expectations.
- Gather and assess patients’ social, educational, economic, and vocational backgrounds.
- Create and update individualized treatment plans, maintaining thorough documentation.
- Make referrals to appropriate services and ensure follow-up.
- Assist in launching new programs and advise on caseload management.
- Provide in-service training to team members and maintain knowledge of addiction treatment.
- Manage intake and readmission procedures and offer follow-up support.
- Provide crisis intervention and complete inter-agency documentation as needed.
- Collaborate with community providers to coordinate patient care.
- Participate in mandatory training from local, state, federal, and accrediting bodies.
- Attend internal meetings, conferences, and ongoing professional development.
- Offer Office-Based Opioid Treatment (OBOT) services and report any work issues promptly.
- Support community outreach and public relations efforts.
- Adhere to all regulatory and accreditation requirements.

- Must hold a human services-related degree (Bachelor’s or Master’s) and valid counseling credentials per state regulations.
- Experience in behavioral health is preferred but not required.
- Must demonstrate sound judgment, discretion, and the ability to handle confidential matters.
- Capable of responding effectively in high-stress situations and consulting supervisors when needed.
- Strong understanding of human behavior and potential for recovery from addiction.
- Familiarity with the substance use treatment field, treatment planning, and rehabilitation processes.
- Must remain compliant with federal and state licensure and certification requirements.
