Summary of Position
The Microbiological Culture Technician is responsible for propagating and maintaining bacterial cultures used to inoculate small- and production-scale fermentation processes. This role will produce and prepare high-quality inoculum, manage bacterial seed banks, execute quality control testing, and accurately document all laboratory activities. This role will also supply support for both customer service and research experiments.
Key Responsibilities
· Review weekly production schedules and prepare appropriate bacterial seed cultures for inoculation of production batches.
· Aseptically propagate bacterial cultures through all intermediate stages to generate final inoculum.
· Perform microbiological quality control testing on seed cultures and all intermediate inoculum stages.
· Maintain, organize, and propagate both production and research bacterial seed banks.
· Accurately document all inoculum preparation, testing, and seed bank activities in accordance with internal procedures (SOPs)
· Communicate experimental results and production data to senior technicians and assist with data analysis as needed.
· Clean and sanitize laboratory workspaces and equipment according to established schedules and protocols (GMPs).
· Restock laboratory supplies as needed.
· Adhere to all GMPs and GLPs.
· Provide support to other departments or projects as directed by the supervisor.
Job Specifications
- High School diploma or equivalent with 2 years laboratory experience up to a bachelor’s degree in Life/Food Science or related field.
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs
- Excellent organizational and record keeping skills
- Highly attentive to detail
- Be able to work as a team or alone
- Ability to work in a standing position for extended periods of time
- Excellent multi-tasking abilities
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $17.00 - $19.00 per hour
