Responsibilities
- Assist cardiologists in performing diagnostic cardiac catheterizations and interventional procedures.
- Provide high-quality nursing care, including assessing and managing patient care in the Cardiac Cath Lab and interventional radiology as needed.
- Closely monitor patients for improvements or complications, administering medications as indicated, including moderate sedation during procedures.
- Demonstrate proficiency in all aspects of diagnostic and interventional catheterization, including circulating, monitoring, and recording procedures.
- Interpret 12-lead EKGs, manage cardiac medications, and provide emergency management of cardiac patients.
- Adhere to current clinical practice guidelines in cardiology and support secondary prevention efforts.
- Perform comprehensive nursing assessments to gather data and identify patient needs.
- Pre-procedure responsibilities include ensuring all clinically important aspects are checked before the patient enters the Cath Lab.
- Assist physicians during catheterization procedures, angioplasties, pacemaker implantation, and other cardiac procedures.
- Understand and operate special devices, including intra-aortic balloon pumps, rotablators, AngioJets, thrombus aspiration systems, cutting balloons, and filter wires.
- A minimum of 1 year of experience in a cardiology catheterization lab is preferred; ICU experience is also preferred.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification is required.
- Experience in advanced cardiac rhythm interpretation and moderate sedation is required.
