Position Overview
We are seeking a Dental Public Health Office Assistant to provide clerical, administrative, and patient-support services within a public health dental clinic environment.
The selected candidate will be responsible for patient registration, appointment scheduling, check-in/check-out, demographic data collection, patient communications, referral coordination, insurance documentation, records management, and other clinic support activities.
The ideal candidate will have strong customer service, administrative, organizational, communication, and data-entry skills and be comfortable working with patients and healthcare staff.
Key Responsibilities
Schedule and manage patient appointments.
Communicate appointment and visit requirements to patients.
Register patients and collect/update demographic information.
Review documentation for program eligibility.
Enter patient information into healthcare/public health management systems.
Work with multiple computer applications to enter and retrieve information.
Process and balance cash drawer transactions.
Explain patient rights and responsibilities.
Obtain required authorization before releasing medical information.
Assist with insurance prior authorization activities.
Gather and submit documentation required for insurance authorization.
Prepare forms and documentation for requested services.
Scan and index records into electronic dental records.
Make patient reminder and follow-up calls.
Coordinate referrals and related follow-up.
Support efficient clinic workflow and patient flow.
Maintain accurate and confidential records.
Provide excellent customer service to patients.
Maintain a positive and cooperative work environment.
Perform other administrative duties as assigned.
Travel between assigned healthcare locations as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Two years of full-time customer service and/or clerical/office experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Current valid driver's license.
Ability to successfully complete a required background check.
Education Substitution
College coursework from an accredited institution may substitute for required experience on a year-for-year basis, up to a maximum of two years.
Preferred Qualifications
Active Tennessee RDA license preferred.
Dental front-office experience preferred.
Knowledge of dental terminology.
Experience with dental scheduling.
Familiarity with dental insurance and coding.
Healthcare, dental, medical office, or public health experience.
Ability to provide chairside assistance during emergencies or staffing shortages.
Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
Strong attention to detail.
Excellent organizational and communication skills.
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced clinic environment.
Work Environment & Requirements
Onsite position.
Primary work location is in Woodbury, Tennessee.
Some travel to McMinnville, Tennessee may be required.
Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM CST.
37.5 hours per week.
No weekend schedule.
Candidate must be a current Tennessee resident.
Candidates relocating to Tennessee must establish residency prior to the start date.
Current driver's license required.
Must successfully complete the required background verification.
