Position Overview

We are seeking a highly motivated and qualified Public Health Program Director 1 to support a public health program focused on tobacco use prevention among youth and young adults.

The selected candidate will work with program and evaluation staff to implement evidence-based prevention strategies, support schools and community partners, develop educational initiatives, and provide training to professionals and stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and implement evidence-based programs and initiatives focused on tobacco prevention among youth and young adults.
• Assist schools with tobacco prevention and cessation initiatives.
• Plan and implement youth engagement trainings related to tobacco prevention.
• Participate in trainings, workshops, conferences, meetings, and professional development activities.
• Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
• Apply current public health and health education knowledge to support community-based interventions.
• Identify educational needs and assist with the development of training programs, classes, and educational initiatives.
• Develop and deliver educational presentations and training sessions.
• Assist with designing and delivering training programs for employees, teachers, and other professionals.
• Prepare, update, and distribute program materials to internal and external stakeholders.
• Collaborate with program staff and partners to accomplish program goals and objectives.
• Manage assigned projects and prioritize tasks effectively while working remotely or independently.
• Maintain strong communication with schools, community organizations, professionals, and other stakeholders.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Health Education, Biology, Public Health, or a related field.
• At least 5 years of experience in public health, education, health promotion, community programs, or a related field.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong organizational and project coordination skills.
• Ability to develop effective relationships with diverse stakeholders.
• Experience developing or delivering educational programs, training, workshops, or presentations.
• Ability to work independently and prioritize multiple assignments in a remote/hybrid environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in tobacco prevention and control.
• Experience working with youth, young adults, schools, teachers, or educational organizations.
• Experience with public health education or health promotion programs.
• Experience developing educational materials and training content.
• Experience working with government agencies, public health departments, schools, or community organizations.
• Knowledge of evidence-based public health interventions and prevention strategies.

Work Location & Residency

• Tennessee residents only.
• Candidates relocating to Tennessee must establish residency prior to the start date.
• Hybrid work arrangement.
• First-day in-person attendance is required in Nashville, TN for laptop deployment and onboarding.
• In-person attendance is expected for quarterly meetings and professional development opportunities.
• Travel to the Nashville office is not reimbursed.
• Travel for qualifying site visits outside the Nashville metropolitan area may be reimbursed according to applicable policy.

Monday–Friday | 8:00 AM–4:30 PM CST
37.5 hours per week / 7.5 hours per day
Overtime: Not eligible

Contract Duration

October 12, 2026 – June 30, 2027

The contract is expected to be renewed annually based on continued program funding, with funding anticipated to continue at least through June 2030.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in public health, health education, prevention, or community programming, along with the ability to engage youth, schools, educators, and community stakeholders. Experience with tobacco prevention, health promotion, educational programming, and evidence-based interventions is highly desirable.
