What are the responsibilities and job description for the Civil Inspector position at Viridan Group?
We are seeking an experienced Civil Construction Inspector responsible for monitoring contractor work on Power Delivery Construction Projects. This includes civil grading, foundation installation, geotechnical testing, and overall environmental compliance. You must ensure work is completed safely and in compliance with industry specifications and be able to professionally communicate all activities to project managers, engineers, and property owners.
Key Responsibilities:
Safety & Oversight
- Monitor multiple contractors to ensure quality of work and adherence to safety rules and work practices.
- Act as a safety mentor, report incidents immediately, and manage clearance requests (Hot Line Tags).
- Maintain compliance with NPDES/GASWCC standards and verify all required locates (e.g., Georgia 811 procedure) are called in.
Quality & Verification
- Verify that all work complies with the civil design drawings and project specifications.
- Confirm materials installed by contract personnel are correct, accounted for, and assist with verifying quantities and deliveries.
- Complete Quality Value Analysis (QVA) at project milestones and ensure timely approval of pay applications and invoices.
Reporting & Administration
- Maintain a complete daily log and/or weekly update report, reporting status back to the coordinator.
- Audit and approve all timesheets and invoices, ensuring documentation for personnel and equipment time is correct.
Requirements
- Experience & Education (Preferred)
- 10 years' experience with a High School Diploma/GED OR 5 years' experience with a 2-year or higher degree in a relevant field (e.g., Civil Engineering, Construction Management).
- Proven ability to manage projects, with experience in contract management.
Technical Knowledge
- Proficient knowledge of Civil Construction methods, industry standards, and excavation safety best practices (Competent Person).
- Fluency in reading, interpreting, and implementing civil design drawings for cut/fill, erosion control, and construction layout.
- Working knowledge of grading, structural concrete, surveying, and standards like ACI & ASTM.
Location:
- Project-Based work in Georgia
- Travel: This role involves statewide travel and routine overnight stays throughout Georgia to monitor various construction sites (per diem included)
Salary : $32 - $40
