Summary: Responsible for project management, budget, staffing, and performance of Breast Health services.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Direct responsibility for the planning, scheduling, and procedural changes in Breast Health.

  2. Ensures compliance with licensing and regulatory standards (Federal, State, and ACR) in mammography including assurance of accurate audit of required statistics.  Manage and help implement appropriate data collection of information needed to monitor clinical, operational, and financial outcomes, as well as MQSA QA/QC standards.

  3. Direct responsibility of personnel performance evaluations for Breast Imaging staff.  Provides assistance in making decisions on appropriate staffing, termination, and other personnel activities.  Plans, implements, and evaluates staff development.

  4. Oversee training of new Breast Health team members.

  5. Manages staff schedules to include time sheets and PTO approvals.

  6. Evaluates and makes purchasing recommendations for equipment, as well as ensuring appropriate medical supplies are available for services provided in Breast Health.

  7. Performs routine maintenance, diagnoses malfunctions, and makes minor repairs on radiologic equipment, arranging for repairs as needed. Provides support and troubleshooting for mammography units, PenRad and Sectra.

  8. Maintains imaging guidelines, develops protocols, implements quality performance standards per radiologists’ recommendations, and educates department staff.

  9. Implements techniques to minimize the occurrence of artifacts and repeats; mentors department staff and maintains performance standards regarding clinical techniques and imaging quality.

  10. Work effectively and provide direct communication with Radiologists to ensure superior patient care and services. 

  11. Serves as point of contact for radiologists, staff, and patients; shares expertise to resolve problems and advise on department operations.

  12. Perform diagnostic or screening examinations as ordered and in accordance with accepted standards of practice and protocols.

  13. Follows safety standards and uses radiation protection when operating radiologic equipment. 

  14. Identifies schedule and workflow obstacles.  Recommends schedule template adjustments and workflow changes.

  15. Assists with special projects and other administrative duties as assigned.

  16. Enhances professional growth through educational programs, conferences, and workshops.

  17. Complies with Virginia Women’s Center’s policies and procedures.  Follows guidelines required by HIPAA and OSHA regulations.  Maintains appropriate attendance and punctuality as defined by Virginia Women’s Center.

Qualifications

Education, Experience and/or Licensure
Graduate of an AMA accredited School of Radiologic Technology, or completion of a comparable program of study.
Commonwealth of Virginia Radiologic Technologist License. 
Current certification with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). ARRT Advanced certification in mammography.
MQSA/FDA – 15 CEU’s every 3 years.
 
Required Experience
Minimum of 3-years related work experience 
Demonstrated advancement, growth, or progressively responsible experience
Previous experience in management, leadership, and/or training role 
 
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities       
Knowledge of anatomy and physiology sufficient to pinpoint area for radiology.
Knowledge of radiology equipment and testing.
Knowledge of radiologic theory and practice including safety hazards common to radiology (including equipment, body mechanics, and patient movement).
Knowledge of organizational policies, regulations, and procedures to administer radiologic tests.
Knowledge of OSHA guidelines.
Skill in properly positioning patients to provide quality imaging.
Skill in troubleshooting and identifying equipment problems and in performing simple adjustments.
Skill in preparing and maintaining records, writing reports, and responding to correspondence.
Skill in maintaining departmental quality assurance and quality control standards.
Ability to prioritize and maximize workload; to multitask and meet objectives and deadlines.
Ability to effectively motivate and lead others.
Ability to demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills.
Ability to identify and implement quality improvement measures.
Ability to maintain the strictest patient confidentiality.
Ability to communicate with patient to ascertain needs before and during procedure.
Accuracy and efficiency in recording information in patients’ charts.
Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
Ability to perform all duties using proper body mechanics.
 
Physical Demands 
Requires full body motion.  Must be able to lift/carry/move items weighing up to 50 pounds. Stand for long periods with frequent squatting, twisting, bending, kneeling, and reaching to prepare equipment, materials, or objects in order to provide patient care or maintain the patient environment. Requires 20/20 correctable vision. Occasional stress in working with tense patients.
 
Work Environment 
Involves travel to multiple worksites.  Remote work up to 2 days per week may be permissible. Exposure to radiation.
