Position Purpose: The Dental Hygiene Site Coordinator will serve as the on‑site instructional and clinical coordination lead at PVCC and will work closely with the Germanna Dental Hygiene Program Director, PVCC faculty, clinical partners, and the PVCC Dean of Health and Life Sciences. The position is responsible for laboratory instruction, coordination of clinical placements, and day‑to‑day management of the instructional site to ensure compliance with accreditation standards, program policies, and student learning outcomes.
Piedmont Virginia Community College seeks an innovative, highly organized, and collaborative individual to serve as a full‑time, twelve‑month Dental Hygiene Site Coordinator. This position supports a new instructional partnership between PVCC and Germanna Community College to deliver a Dental Hygiene cohort in the Charlottesville region under Germanna’s existing accredited Dental Hygiene program.
PVCC desires applicants with a commitment to the community college mission; teaching, learning, and student success. This is a restricted position and has a term limit of 4 years. Future funding will be dependent on the success of the program.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Dental Hygiene Site Coordinator serves as the primary on‑site coordinator for the PVCC instructional location and will work in close collaboration with the Germanna Dental Hygiene Program Director and PVCC administration.
Administrative Duties
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

- Develop clinical duties to be performed by students specific to each semester and maintain clinical assistant grade sheets accordingly.
- Maintain student records and attendance in an orderly and timely manner.
- Update, maintain, and replenish clinic/lab documents to include:
- documents for student use in clinics/labs.
- sterilization instructions and documents for all equipment and processes
- Manage telephone communications with patients to include retrieving messages, returning phone calls, explaining the clinic process to interested patients, and instructing students on the process.
- Manage the patient call list and instruct students how to use it.
- Ensure safety and security requirements are met in the clinic/lab area by providing daily and ongoing oversight of facilities, equipment, and student records.
- Test and maintain all equipment and troubleshoot issues and help students maintain a log of issues.
- Coordinate equipment repairs with maintenance, IT, and outside supply company technicians.
- Prepare & maintain equipment maintenance logs.
- Conduct quality control assessments.
- Collaborate with the PVCC healthcare manager to coordinate all dental hygiene clinical supplies to include inventory, obtaining quotes, & organizing.
- Update Dentrix Software System in clinical setting.
- Train adjunct faculty on equipment use and student assessments.
- Assist with the coordination of guest speakers and dental representatives for presentations to faculty and students.
- Actively seek ways to improve clinical instruction.
- Coordinate with dental hygiene course instructors to maintain curriculum standards.
- Assist with the following:
- development of competency forms used in clinic.
- planning and organizing pre-clinic and clinic sessions.
- coordination of Radiology lab, Dental Materials lab, and Pain Management lab
- planning, organizing, and scheduling special events and social activities.
- Maintain and apply current knowledge of the program’s accrediting body, Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA)

- Provide clinical instruction to 1st and 2nd year Dental Hygiene Students
- Evaluate student progress in competency areas to attain goals and meet objectives.
- Effectively demonstrate clinical techniques and skills to students
- Fill in clinical sessions when assigned faculty members are absent.

- Prepare dental hygiene clinic at start of each semester in compliance with ADA, CODA, OSHA, and GCC requirements.

- Maintain dental equipment including waterline treatment, water filters, extra-oral suction filters, ADEC equipment, intra- and extra-oral X-ray equipment, sensors, phosphor plates, ScanX machines, sterilization equipment, etc.
- Open and close clinic daily.

- Assess and grade students during patient care.
- Employ teaching strategies and instruction for different student learning styles.
- Meet with students and other educators to discuss students’ instructional needs and other issues impacting the progress of the students.

KSA's/Required Qualifications
- Current licensure as a Registered Dental Hygienist (RDH) in the Commonwealth of Virginia (or eligibility for Virginia licensure).
- Academic degree no lower than a bachelor’s degree or higher in Dental Hygiene, Education, or a related health sciences field.
- Minimum of two years of recent clinical experience as a dental hygienist.
- Documented experience in clinical supervision, instruction, student evaluation, and mentoring.
- Demonstrated knowledge of dental hygiene education, clinical competencies, and infection control standards.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively across institutions in a shared‑program partnership model.
