The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts (VMFA) invites applications for the role of Kitchen Services Associate.

Reporting to area-specific Executive Chefs, this position supports our culinary team in Amuse, a full service upscale restaurant, as well as our other food service revenue centers as needed. This is a non-exempt, wage position without benefits, eligible to work up to approximately 28 hours per week on average and up to 1,450 hours annually (May 1 - April 30). Duties include:

• General cleaning, dishwashing, sweeping, mopping and other assignments as needed.
• Assisting with maintaining kitchen works areas and ensuring equipment, utensils, dishes, etc. are clean and stored neatly and properly.
• Organizing dishes, silverware, platters, cups, plates, etc.
• Removing trash and recycling from kitchens and proper disposal
• Keeping cleaning chemicals stocked, alerting manager when in need of equipment or product
• Contributing and adhering to our exceptional service standards; maintaining a professional demeanor and appearance; ability to remain calm, think under pressure and keep operations in a fast-paced dining environment
• Assist with special cleaning projects, as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

• Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to demonstrate a professional demeanor with guests and other employees
• Ability to read, comprehend and follow basic directions and instructions
• Ability to handle fast paced, high volume situations in a kitchen
• Ability to receive and follow scheduling via computerized software
• Ability to use fine and gross motor skills; finger and hand dexterity; reach with hands and arms; climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk and hear; and taste and smell
• Ability to remain calm, professional and gracious in a fast paced, high-pressure environment
• Ability to maintain a professional demeanor and appearance during shifts
• Ability to receive feedback well
• Ability to be prompt and punctual to scheduled shifts, working various schedules and shifts throughout business hours
• Ability to lift, carry and deliver items weighing up to 50 lbs and stand and walk for up to 10 hours
• Flexible availability that includes weekends, evenings and holidays
• Ability to work as part of a team; flexible when given different assignments and directions
• Motivated with strong work ethic; self-starter

Additional Considerations

• Prior general cleaning experience or hospitality related experience, particularly in fast-paced restaurants
• General experience with cleaning chemicals and dish machines
• Ability to work independently and effectively without direct supervision.
• ServSafe Food Handler's certification is a plus

Special Requirements

Selected candidates must pass a criminal history background check.
