Professional Tutor – Jasper Campus
Part-Time
Professional tutors in the Academic Center for Excellence (ACE) assist VU Jasper students who need help in specific courses. The purpose of tutoring is to help students help themselves, or to assist or guide students to the point at which they become an independent learner, and thus, no longer need a tutor. Professional tutors in ACE assist students with developing critical thinking and study skills and help to fill gaps of subject knowledge where students may be struggling.
Professional tutors typically work two to eight hours per week, with the hours being prearranged before the semester begins. Tutors are paid hourly.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Work with students individually or in small groups, tutoring a variety of subjects.
- Assist students with locating research materials in ACE.
- Help advise campus student club as needed.
- Administer make-up tests as needed.
- Help supervise peer tutors as needed.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associate degree required (bachelor’s degree preferred), or at least 5 years of experience in the subject area.
- Prior teaching experience is a plus
- Ability to maintain confidences regarding students’ personal information and learning
