Our Building and Code Division Manager has a great impact on the Westmont community as a whole. This position will allow you to provide customer service to our residents and businesses alike.

Community Development is in the business of facilitating construction while navigating a complex set of rules, conditions and procedures, and every day presents new opportunities to problem-solve. And, while no two days are the same, here is an idea of some of the things this position gets to do:

Examples of key duties for this position include the following:

  • Provide leadership and supervision to the Building Division and Code Enforcement staff, while ensuring prompt and professional service to both internal and external customers
  • Coordinate the permitting process, overseeing plan reviews and consultant activities to keep projects for commercial, residential, and multi-family properties moving forward and on schedule
  • Help foster pride in our community by encouraging property upkeep and taking appropriate legal enforcement action when it’s needed
  • Stay ahead of the curve by keeping up with industry trends, code updates, and certifications that help you grow as a knowledgeable and effective leader

Experience that will contribute to success in this role:

  • Having the ability to work with many different types of audiences (resident, contractor, staff or elected official) and respond in a professional, courteous manner
  • Being familiar with building codes, municipal ordinances, and best practices that support property investment while maintaining essential safety and construction standards
  • You’re comfortable with technology and can make the most of online permitting software—improving efficiency, accuracy, and progress toward department goals
  • Imparting knowledge and building capacity within your staff to make confident, educated decisions when at the front counter, in the field, or communicating with the public
