ICC WFH Plan Examiner – Master Code Professional (MCP)

TPI Building Code Consultants is seeking an experienced ICC WFH Plan Examiner to join our team of building code professionals. This is a work-from-home (WFH) opportunity for a highly knowledgeable and detail-oriented professional with a strong background in building code plan review and a current ICC Master Code Professional (MCP) certification.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience reviewing construction documents for compliance with applicable building codes and standards, communicating technical code requirements clearly, and working independently in a remote environment.

Location: Remote

• Perform thorough plan reviews and technical evaluations of commercial and/or residential construction documents.
• Review plans for compliance with applicable building codes, standards, and adopted local regulations.
• Identify code deficiencies and clearly document required corrections.
• Prepare detailed plan review comments and communicate code requirements to design professionals, contractors, jurisdictions, and other stakeholders.
• Evaluate architectural, structural, and related construction documents as applicable to assigned projects.
• Apply knowledge of the International Building Code (IBC), International Residential Code (IRC), and other applicable ICC codes and standards.
• Conduct code research and provide accurate interpretations of code requirements.
• Maintain accurate and organized records of plan reviews and project documentation.
• Communicate professionally and effectively with clients and project teams.
• Manage multiple projects and deadlines while working independently in a remote environment.
• Stay current with changes to building codes, standards, and industry practices.

• Current ICC Master Code Professional (MCP) certification is required.
• Significant experience in building code plan examination and/or code enforcement.
• Strong knowledge of ICC codes, including the IBC and other applicable model codes.
• Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply building codes to complex construction projects.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong attention to detail and analytical problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to work independently, prioritize assignments, and meet deadlines in a WFH environment.
• Proficiency with computers, electronic plan review platforms, PDF markup software, and Microsoft Office or similar applications.
• Professional judgment and the ability to communicate code requirements in a clear, constructive manner.

• Experience as a building official, plans examiner, code consultant, architect, engineer, or code enforcement professional.
• Additional ICC certifications beyond the MCP.
• Experience with electronic plan review systems.
• Knowledge of accessibility requirements, energy codes, fire and life safety provisions, and other specialty codes.
• Experience reviewing complex commercial construction projects.
• Experience working with municipalities, developers, architects, engineers, and contractors.
