PW Maintenance Worker I

• Assists in setting, pouring, and finishing concrete to repair curbs, gutters, driveways, and sidewalks; assists in the placement of asphalt involving patching or paving operations on Village streets and parking areas.
• Performs basic lawn care and landscaping tasks to include trimming trees and hedges, mowing ditches, etc.; Operates various lawn and general maintenance equipment such as lawn mowers, tractors, edger, bob cats, pressure cleaners, and blowers.
• Tree and stump removal as needed.
• Garbage removal.
• Removes, replaces, and/or repairs street signs; Performs minor traffic striping on streets, crosswalks, and curbs.
• Assists in the installation and repair of underground pipes and water main breaks.
• Operates pickup and dump trucks, loaders, backhoes, sweepers, riding snow blowers, and other maintenance equipment; Performs routine repair on equipment as needed.
• Operate hand and power tools.
• Performs indoor and outdoor maintenance and repair of Village buildings such as dry wall, painting, and taping.
• Operates snow removal equipment to maintain streets, sidewalks, and parking lots.
• Assist with set up and tear down of events.
• Remove dead animals from streets when required.

• Maintains and cares for supplies, facilities, and equipment; performs routine maintenance and equipment safety inspections; and reports maintenance and safety hazards to appropriate personnel.
• May assist in performing routine building maintenance tasks in heating, carpentry, plumbing, or electrical work.
• May assist with cleaning facilities for events.
• Other duties and projects as assigned.

• The proper use and care of hand and power tools. 
• General construction, repair, and maintenance principles and the equipment, machinery, and tools used in construction activities.
• Landscaping and grounds maintenance, including plant and lawn care, mowing, watering, and spraying. 
• Methods and techniques of repair, maintenance, and installation.

• Prioritizing work and exercise independent judgment, wisdom, common sense, and initiative using initiative, discretion, and judgment within established procedures guidelines and rules absent of supervisor.
• Time management and organization to effectively perform his/her job.

• Safely operate and use hand and power tools such as a tractor, edger, aerator, pressure washer, etc.  
• Perform a variety of semi-skilled tasks, which require manual dexterity.
• Perform a variety of semi-skilled and unskilled tasks in the construction, maintenance, and repair of facilities and Village infrastructure.
• Properly operate and care for heavy equipment.
• Perform preventive maintenance and minor repairs to power tools and vehicles. 
• Solve practical problems with or without immediate supervision.
• Work with others as part of a team and/or independently.
• Understand and follow written and oral instructions, perform work assignments and follow policies and procedures.
• Work cooperatively with other employees, supervisors, and the general public.
• Perform detailed work accurately and to initiate and maintain necessary follow-up.

• Maintain a professional attitude and maintain consistent attendance with advance notification of absences.
• Work on-call 24/7 on a rotating basis.
• Be on-call for snow removal season and emergencies.

• Noise level in the work environment may be loud.
• Routine exposure to extreme weather conditions (sometimes for prolonged periods of time), including but not limited, to extreme heat or cold, high humidity, rain, snow, and high winds.
• Exposure to many unknown conditions, including possible hazardous sites and dangerous situations or conditions.

• Must be able to sit and talk or hear; walk; use hands to touch, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. 
• Must have vision to read printed materials, and hearing and speech to communicate.
• Must be able to make color distinctions and have normal depth perception.
• Perform heavy manual labor which entails frequent lifting and carrying of heavy/bulky items such as construction materials, bags of cement, jack hammers, picnic tables, pesticide sprayers, backpack blowers, and full garbage cans which weigh up to 100 pounds.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

·High School Diploma or GED Equivalent.

·Minimum of one (1) year of experience in streets repair, construction, maintenance, or a related field.

·Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to successfully perform the essential job functions of this position.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

·A valid driver’s license.

·Possession of a valid CDL or ability to obtain one within six (6) months of hire.
