POSITION OVERVIEW |
|
Under the direction of the Day Camp Lead Counselor, the Day Camp Counselor Instructs and supervises children during day camp from June through August; enforces rules and communicates with the children and parents in a pleasant manner. |

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS |
|
·Instructs in accordance with curriculum designed by Day Camp Director. ·Observes and supervises the conduct of all children. ·Enforces rules, regulations and safety procedures to protect the life and well-being of children and enforces emergency procedures when needed. ·Attends required employee orientation and meetings and satisfies training requirements. ·Cleans classroom, restrooms and kitchen. ·Communicates openly with children, parents and staff in a friendly manner. |

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES For successful performance in this position, the incumbent will need to demonstrate the following: |

KNOWLEDGE of: ·Office terminology and procedures. ·Various camp games and activities ·Effective communicating strategies and conflict resolution techniques SKILLS in: ·Exercising independent judgment, wisdom, and common sense within established procedures guidelines and rules. ·Interpersonal, verbal, and written communication for interaction with others. ·Communicating weather updates, schedule and venue changes in a timely and efficient manner. ·Positive interactions with children and ability to discipline with dignity. ABILITY to: ·Follow written, verbal, or diagrammatic instructions. ·Perform simple addition, subtraction, multiplication and division of whole numbers, copying figures, counting and recording. ·Maintain a professional attitude and maintain punctuality and consistent attendance with advance notification of absences. ·Handle confidential material and information in an ethical and professional manner. ·Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees. ·Communicate effectively, verbally or in writing, with parents, children and staff during pre-school program. ·Analyze situations quickly and objectively and to determine proper course of action. ·Demonstrate good customer service skills with the ability to problem solve complaints. ·Work cohesively on a team. ·Work hours beyond the regularly scheduled workday when needed and pre-approved. |

MINIMUM POSITION REQUIREMENTS |
|
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE ·Minimum of a sophomore in high school. ·Must be at least sixteen (16) years old. ·Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to successfully perform the essential job functions of this position. LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS ·CPR and First Aid certification |

ENVIRONMENTAL AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS |

ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS including: ·Sedentary office work although standing in work areas and walking between work areas may be required. ·Working outside, with exposure to outside atmospheric conditions; occasional fumes, noxious odors, dusts, mists, gases, and poor ventilation. ·May be exposed to stressful situations as a result of human behavior. PHYSICAL DEMANDS including: ·Finger and hand dexterity to handle, feel, or operate tools and equipment and to operate standard office equipment. ·Vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, make color distinctions, and have normal depth perception; ability to smell fumes like odorous gas; and hearing and speech to communicate in person, before groups, and over the telephone. ·Occasionally bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching, pushing, and pulling drawers open and closed to retrieve and file information. ·Lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling materials and objects weighing up to eighty (80) pounds.
