An Independent Living Skills Instructor assists in oversight and support for individuals served in the Independent Living Services (ILS) program. The role involves teaching adults with developmental disabilities to live as independently as possible by developing, increasing, or maintaining skills. Responsibilities include supporting clients in various areas such as:
- Self-advocacy
- Community integration
- Self-care
- Social recreation/leisure skills
- Cooking
- Cleaning
- Shopping in natural environment
- Menu planning
- Meal preparation
- Money management
- Use of public transportation/Metro Access
- Personal health and hygiene
- Use of medical and dental services
- Use of community resources
- Home and community safety
- Support vocational issues with the client in coordination with his job coach.
Our Independent Living Services (ILS) program provides support for developmentally disabled adults, 18 years and older, who seek to maintain a self-sustaining, independent living environment in the community.
Compensation: $19.00 - $20.00/hour
Schedules: Monday - Friday 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM Saturday 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM (25 - 30 hours/week)
Location: in-person; Pasadena, CA 91107
Requirements:
- High School Diploma/GED or equivalent.
- Experience assisting special needs individuals; 1 year preferred.
- Satisfactorily complete a background fingerprinting clearance from DOJ/FBI Community Care Licensing/Dept. of Social Services.
- Satisfactorily complete a physical and Tuberculosis (TB) screenings.
- A valid California Driver’s License with at least three years of verifiable driving history is preferred. *Reliable transportation and a clean driving record are important for safely supporting individuals with special needs. This role includes transporting participants to medical and therapy appointments, community activities and recreational outings, as well as educational or vocational programs to support their individual goals.
