Compensation for this position will be determined based on a combination of factors, including education, professional certifications, relevant experience, and other job-related considerations permitted by law.

Reporting into the Quality Manager , the Quality Control Chemist will be based out of Cleveland, Ohio. The Quality Control (QC) Chemist performs analytical testing on raw materials, in-process samples, and finished products to ensure compliance with internal specifications, industry standards, and regulatory requirements. This role supports manufacturing operations by validating product quality, troubleshooting deviations, and maintaining accurate laboratory documentation. The QC Chemist uses a variety of wet chemistry and instrumental techniques and must demonstrate strong analytical skills, scientific reasoning, and attention to detail. .

Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of chemical and physical tests on products, intermediates, and raw materials to include logging results and documenting all non-conforming results.
  • Perform qualitative and standard measurements of glass properties using standard techniques such to measure coefficient of thermal expansion, Labino softening points, and density (Archimedes, Helium Pycnometry).
  • Conduct instrumental measurements including DSC, DTA, surface area, and particle size analysis.
  • Prepare reagents and standards. Measure calibration standards and controls according to test methods and SOPs.
  • Execute method validations, verifications, and transfers as assigned.
  • Accurately document test results in statistical software and batch records.
  • Review and interpret results, ensuring accuracy, repeatability, and compliance.
  • Communicate out-of-specification (OOS) results promptly.
  • Maintain documentation in compliance with GMP, GLP, ISO, or company standards.
  • Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory instruments such as balances, dilatometers, thermal analysis equipment and spectrophotometers.
  • Troubleshoot equipment issues and coordinate repairs.
  • Maintain laboratory organization and safety standards.
  • Participate in root cause analysis and CAPA activities.
  • Support internal and external audits.
  • Follow safety policies, including proper handling and disposal of chemicals.
  • Work with production, R&D, and quality teams to support product quality and process improvements.
  • Recommend improvements to test methods, equipment, or workflows.
  • Train new laboratory personnel as needed.

Required Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biochemistry, chemical engineering, or related field.
  • Direct experience with analytical laboratory techniques.
  • Strong understanding of chemical principles, analytical methods, and lab safety.
  • Ability to analyze data and troubleshoot issues.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office; LIMS experience preferred.

Preferred Experience

  • 1–3 years of experience in a QC laboratory.
  • Experience with advanced instrumentation.
  • Knowledge of GMP or ISO 9001 standards.
  • Experience with audits, CAPAs, or method validations.

The physical demands and working conditions are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Must be able to lift up to 50lbs, stand/sit for extended periods of time, and be able to wear Personal Protective Equipment such as respirator, gloves, safety glasses, and lab coats.
