Duties / Responsibilities
- Handle all housekeeping requests in a timely and professional manner; ensure cleaning methods and materials used promote the long life of all types of floor surfaces, painted, carpeted, and other surfaces, building fixtures, etc.
- Direct and schedule projects that occur monthly or quarterly, such as cleaning window ledges, shampooing carpet, etc.; maintain records and inventory of custodial supplies and equipment in areas supervised.
- Perform building audits; watch for and promptly report areas needing custodial or maintenance attention.
- Instruct employees in proper custodial methods and use of new equipment, document such training and re-training, inspect work, provide coaching, and give suggestions on ways to improve in their job duties.
- Assist the Assistant Director and Director of Building Services in interviewing all potential custodial personnel, training personnel, and evaluating performance levels; make recommendations on matters of discipline, promotions, hiring, overtime, performance evaluations, and other personnel functions; prepare, verify, and submit payroll records; maintain attendance records, and resolve worker problems.
- Ensure building security by locking and unlocking doors and gates.
- High school education or equivalent.
- Minimum of five years of full-time verifiable related work experience in a supervisory position or any combination of education, training, and experience, which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of this job.
- This employee will be a regular driver as defined in the UAH Vehicle Safety Management Program, which includes but is not limited to possessing a valid driver’s license and maintaining an acceptable MVR in the judgment of the University’s insurance company.
- Experience with Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, etc.)
- Fully knowledgeable in current cleaning practices & use of disinfecting chemicals.
- Certified in blood-borne pathogen cleanup or obtain certification within six months of hire.
- Leadership skills, including communication, motivation, and coaching experience.
- Familiarity with laws and regulations related to supervising employees.
- Proficient Spanish language skills are desired.
- Carpet/floor care certification is desired.
- Certified training in respiratory protection, asbestos awareness, confined space entry, hazard communication, personal protective equipment use, and injury prevention is preferred.
- Experience handling hazardous materials is desired.
