What are the responsibilities and job description for the Custodial Worker position at Madison County Commission?
This position involves manual work in the custodial care and upkeep of County buildings and premises. The employee performs cleaning and minor maintenance tasks, ensuring proper methods, materials, and equipment are used to maintain cleanliness and safety. Work is performed under close supervision following an established routine.
(All duties listed may not be included in any one position nor does the list include all tasks found in a position of this class.)
- Scrubs, mops, waxes, and polishes floors.
- Dusts and polishes furniture.
- Washes windows, woodwork, and fixtures.
- Cleans and maintain facility restrooms.
- Vacuums carpeted areas.
- Perform other related cleaning tasks as assigned.
- Moves office furniture and equipment.
- Replaces burned out light bulbs, replenishes restroom supplies, and assists in making simple repairs to buildings and equipment as required.
- Sweeps and cleans walkways, mows lawns, rakes leaves, and generally assists in keeping outside premises in an orderly condition.
Education and Experience
- Any combination of training and experience equivalent to completion of any level of primary or secondary education that did not result in the awarding of a high school diploma or an equivalency diploma.
Knowledge, Skill, and Ability
- Some knowledge of materials, methods and equipment used in janitorial work.
- Ability to understand and follow simple oral and written instructions.
- Physical strength and ability to push, pull, and lift various pieces of equipment and furniture up to a weight of 75 pounds.
- Perform a variety of routine manual tasks in the care, cleaning and limited maintenance of buildings and equipment.
- Ability to work outside in various weather conditions.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and be insurable under Madison County’s risk management policy if the position involves driving. (Not all Custodial positions require driving duties.)
