Fred Smith Company is seeking an experienced Asphalt Paving Foreman to join our Eastern Division in Wilson, NC. We are a leading heavy civil contractor specializing in commercial site work, public infrastructure, and asphalt construction across North Carolina.
Position Summary
The Asphalt Paving Foreman is responsible for leading and supervising paving crews to ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards. This role requires strong leadership, technical expertise in asphalt paving, and a commitment to safety and team development.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and supervise paving crews, ensuring work begins on time and productivity goals are met
Promote a positive team environment focused on safety, accountability, and continuous improvement
Train and mentor crew members on proper equipment use, paving techniques, and job performance
Ensure all equipment is operated and maintained safely and effectively
Monitor and improve job performance, productivity, quality, and cost control
Oversee onboarding and orientation of new employees, including safety and company policies
Conduct performance evaluations and provide feedback on employee development and compensation
Collaborate with project managers, superintendents, and other foremen to ensure smooth operations
Maintain compliance with safety regulations, EEO standards, and company policies
Track project performance, including costs, material yields, staffing needs, and scheduling
Communicate project updates, issues, and changes to leadership in a timely manner
Ensure all work complies with local laws, regulations, and construction standards
Build and maintain strong relationships with inspectors, engineers, customers, and the public
Complete accurate daily reports and document key project activities and communications

Ability to work outdoors in varying conditions
Must be able to hear and communicate effectively on job sites
